HOW IT WORKS
Families receive ‘bundles' - which are
bespoke to each situation - after Mary
receives a referral from food banks,
ESCC Children's Services, Healthcare
Professionals and related charities. Each
referral is unique, and the Kids Count
Project tries hard to make sure each
bundle has as much as is needed for the
given situation.
WHAT THEY NEED
Donations are mainly clothes and toys -
though often there are requests for larger
items such as stair gates, buggies and
baby bouncers. The Hailsham Lions and
Rotary Club also support the project by
providing supermarket vouchers meaning
that Mary can add nappies, wipes, bottles,
formula and weaning kits as required.
Usually, bundles are prepared for
children under the age of two, but they
will sometimes receive a request for items
for an older child.
SHOUT OUTS
Mary rallies the project's supporters
through the Kids Count Project's Facebook
page - putting out shout-outs for items
and welcoming new members. No details
are ever given of the recipient - but who
cares, as long as someone in need is being
helped?

ABOUT DONATIONS
All donations including clothes and soft
toys should be washed before being
passed on. The project welcomes the
following items:
BRAND NEW/NEVER USED ITEMS:
Muslins and washcloths; unopened
toiletries and baby wipes; 3+, 6+ and 12+
month sippy cups; baby bottles and teats;
dummies - newborn up to 12 months.
REALLY GOOD CONDITION:
Cellular blankets and sleep-sacks up to
18 months; Board books for under 18
months; Storybooks for under 3’s; Toys
suitable for under 18 months (non-battery
items); Baby cloth soothers and first
toys. All clothing must be in really good
condition or new.
