Holy Trinity and St Margaret's
Statistically you are very likely to have already
abandoned your New Year’s resolution and are
waiting for the gym membership to lapse. But
all is not lost. We are just entering the season of
Lent which is a time of us loosing not pounds
but the bad habits that accumulate and slow us
down in the race of life.
It all starts, surprisingly, with a Pancake party
that is open to all in the Sanctuary (opposite St
Margaret’s Church) at 6pm on Tuesday 13th
February, during half term.
The next day (Ash Wednesday) Lent starts in
earnest with a service of repentance and the
imposition of Ashes at 8pm at St Margaret’s
Church.
Mothering Sunday is the 11th March and then
Palm Sunday is on 25th March.
We have services every day during the Holy
Week so on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
we have Night Prayer (a short reflective way to
end the day) in Holy Trinity at 9pm each
evening. And then on Maundy Thursday
(where we remember Jesus praying in the
Garden of Gethsemane the night before the
Crucifixion) we have a service of sung
meditation around the music and chants of the
Taize Community. 7pm at Holy Trinity. On

Good Friday we pause for an hour at midday in
St Margaret’s for a meditation on the Cross.
Saturday the 30th is Easter Eve and there is a
Vigil Service at 9pm in Holy Trinity where we
anticipate the resurrection of the Easter
Morning.
The Easter Day services comprise:
6am - Sonrise service, starting around a fire in
the Churchyard, at Holy Trinity
8am - Services of Holy Communion at both
Holy Trinity and St Margaret’s
9.30am and 11am - Easter Communion
Services at St Margaret’s and Holy Trinity
respectively.
Allow the Holy Spirit to be your personal
trainer through this time of Lent so that you can
arrive at Easter in a spiritually fit state. Blessings,

Penn Free Methodist Church
On Friday February 9th at 8pm we are holding a
special meeting entitled ‘The Power of God’s
Word’, at which Mr Graham Chewter will
address us on the work of the Trinitarian Bible
Society in translating and distributing Bibles
and other Christian literature all around the
world. One of their current translation projects
is that of the Bible into the language of the small
Clothe tribe from the Indian State of Manipur. A
Mongolian New Testament was completed last
year, and work is now taking place on the Old
Testament. The Society also sells and distributes
King James Version Bibles here
in the UK.

addition is an exposition of
Psalm 96:6-13, and is entitled,
‘The true status of the Lord
Jesus Christ’. We read in verse
6 of the psalm, “Strength and
beauty are in his sanctuary”.
