SPORTS NEWS ROUND UP P&TG Cricket Club As winter slowly loosens its grip, our attentions are turned towards the summer as we prepare for the 2017 cricket season. A SNOWY PITCH! Whilst there is little to report on the playing side at this time of year, there is always plenty to organise to ensure that your village Cricket Club is in the best possible shape when April rolls around. The covering of snow in early December provided a very different view of the ground to any walkers out on those few days. The winter hibernation will continue well into March at which time we will set about the various tasks required to get ready for April - including hedge cutting and the first cut and roll of the pitches. On the playing side, we will be running pre-season Nets from March so please keep an eye out for further information about these. We are always looking for new players to join in the fun over the Summer months. Planning is also underway for a number of fundraising and social events this season including a Quiz night, Vice Presidents’ Lunch, T20-match and late-Summer 6-a-side tournament. All are welcome so please keep an eye on our social-media outlets, the next edition of Village Voice or the P&TGRS website for further details. www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Village Voice February/March 2018 In order to continue to invest in the club and provide the best possible experience for local players, young and old, we are looking for sponsors. If you are interested in branding playing shirts or advertising at matches, use of the ground for a company event or the opportunity to promote your business to the 350-strong membership, please get in touch with Jon Cockcroft at jrcockcroft@gmail.com. On the playing side, we will hold our annual ‘registration evening’ in April for both the senior and junior age-group sides. As with any village club or society, our success relies heavily on the hard work of all the volunteers who make everything run smoothly. There is always more that we want to do and it is impossible to have too many volunteers so if you want to join the fun and help in any way (maybe as a match-scorer or umpire), we would 19
