There are few experiences more relaxing
that sitting in your own spa pool, with a
beverage of choice, and staring up at the
stars on a still, clear, Canterbury night.
Stress relief, eased tension from sore
muscles and the aches and pains of busy
lives, quality time with loved ones and fun
with the children, or just a few moments of
quiet time alone. These and more are the
benefits hot tub owners acknowledge.
New technologies and innovations in
design have made a wide variety of spa
pools available to suit every home and
landscape, and most budgets. Compact
two to four person pools fit into tight
corners, and much larger swim spas allow
you to exercise – swim, walk, or jog –
using powerful jets of water to keep you
moving on the spot. They provide low
impact workouts, plus all the therapeutic
benefits of the smaller spas.
In the age of personalised everything
– smartphones, computers, cars, and
space travel – spa pools, too, can be fully
customisable. For example, you can now
buy spas with interchangeable massage
seats which you can personalise to best
suit your needs.
These days, many spas include integrated
lighting displays, fountain and waterfall
features, remote control, and wireless and
Bluetooth technologies.
When it comes to landscaping for a
spa pool, imagination, and budget, are
the only limitations. From a simple spa
on the deck with perhaps a shade sail to
a more elaborate design integrated into
the entire yard with flat screen television
to watch, it is advisable to get direction

New pool safety legislation came into effect in January 2017. Regulations vary according to
jurisdiction and pool dimensions, and it is pool owners’ responsibility to ensure their spa pool
