Having trouble settling your baby? Perhaps it’s time for a new cot. Surely your
little honey will sleep like an angel in a 24-carat gold-plated, Italian leather-lined,
Swarovski crystal-encrusted bed. Designers Marta Buzalska and Dariusz Panczyk,
then expecting their first child, imagined a sleeping pod that would mimic a
mother’s womb, be portable and also feature as a striking piece of furniture. The
result is produced – entirely by hand – in a Polish shipping yard, incorporating
the same materials as used on exclusive yachts, and leather as used in Maserati
cars. Taking 200,000 hours to plate and with a $82,500 price tag, the Luulu Bed
also comes in black or white – entry level options at a cool $7880.
HANGING OUT IN HEATHROW
A 12-month build-time finally saw the fruition of
Heathrow’s Qantas London Lounge recently. The
marble cocktail bar caught our attention, although
we’d be hard pressed to move far from the gin bar
either. A handy place for respite for Qantas travellers,
plus those who get special treatment with Emirates.
The airline has also been garnering attention for the
menu on its new non-stop Perth-to-London route.
On trial is an array of options designed to encourage
sleep at optimum times and reduce jetlag. Rather
than being laced with sedatives, there’s kombucha to
assist digestion and cold-pressed probiotic-infused
watermelon juice (for a wake-up call).

design made possible through a collaboration between Rosenthal
