This popular event is the southern hemisphere’s only international
fashion design competition. There will be 44 collections from 21
countries. Designers have to travel to Dunedin to participate in
the Judging Day where they will appear in front of an international
panel of judges from the fashion industry. Dunedin will be awash
with young, innovative designers from Bangladesh, Croatia, Hong
Kong and Italy… as well as many more. The awards have such a
reputation that these young designers travel to Dunedin at their
own expense just to be a part of it.
Margo says it’s going to be very exciting. “The talent on show
for 2018 is pushing boundaries with diverse cultural and personal
identities explored through their fashion languages. This is a unique
opportunity to be amazed by the future of the world’s fashion, right
here in Dunedin.”
This year’s Emerging selection committee is made up of Kiwi
fashion designers Tanya Carlson, Benny Castles (WORLD), and
Margi Robertson (NOM*d). They noted the exceptional standard
of entries from around the world, which made selecting a pool of
finalists extremely difficult.
It’s going to be a feast of fashion. “iD 2018 will present a real
diversity of cutting-edge international fashion where 21 countries
are represented with each collection interpreting elements of that
culture in original design,” says Tanya Carlson.
