Success Story
A TEAM-UP FOR
FRANKIE’S HOUSE
Frankie came into our office in
search of some much needed
assistance. Her home needed
several repairs that she was
physically and financially unable
to obtain. Mary Beth from Home
Repair and Margarite from
Weatherization helped her through
the application process and were
able to partner on her project.
Weatherization and Home Repair
each performed part of the necessary
repairs according to our program
regulations. Weatherization replaced
three doors and installed 897 square
Choosing Your Own Neighborhood!
feet of R-30 insulation in the attic.
We also installed floor insulation to
keep the cold air from seeping in
through her floors. We wrapped 84
feet of water lines to keep them from
freezing in the winter. We employed
our standard infiltration reduction
measures such as us of caulking,
expansion foam, rubberized leak
stopper, and foam board.
Frankie’s home is now much
safer and more energy efficient.
Weatherization and Home Repair
are always happy to partner on
projects whenever possible.
Having safe, affordable housing
can be a difficult task for many of
the Economic Security Corporation
of Southwest Area’s clients. Often
homes that meet the needs of their
family and circumstances is out of
reach for them financially, even those
fortunate enough to be working fulltime.
Homes they can afford may be
in poor condition, located too far from
work or services, or not adequate for
them and their family. The Housing
Choice Voucher (HCV) program helps
bridge that gap with rental assistance.
“Choice” is the key word in the
title Housing Choice Voucher. Each
qualifying family receives a housing
assistance “voucher” worth an
amount based on their household
size and income. They are free to
then take that voucher anywhere
within our service area and find
the home they want, not one that
is chosen for them. Families or
individuals are required to pay
30% of their income toward rent
and utilities, ESC’s Jasper County
Public Housing Agency then
bridges the difference. Over 340
households are currently using HCV
rental assistance to provide a safe,
secure and affordable place to live
for themselves, their children, and
their families.
