Western Australia’s one-man
band distillery, Old Young’s,
operates out of a 36-square
metre shed in the Swan
Valley and has just recently
been named Australia’s
best spirits producer for the
second consecutive year.
Their 1829 Gin features the
finest botanicals including
Tuscan juniper berries to
give it the right balance
between bright citrus
characters and savoury
spice. It’s a truly indulgent
gin that goes well as a
classic martini and in a G&T.
On the basis of this we can’t
wait to try their Six Seasons
Gin and recently released
Common Gin, which both
won a Gold Medal at the
2018 Australian Distilled
Spirit Awards.
Based around sherrymatured
whiskies from
Edrington’s single malt
labels including The
Macallan, Highland Park,
Glenturret and Glenrothes,
it is rich and enticing. The
casks have never held
whisky before and it is
from these ‘naked’ casks
that Naked Grouse gets
its name. It’s a superb
valley-for-money blend.
This is something different
for fans of Australian
whisky or spirits. Using
top quality Australian
Malted Barley, North Fort
White Dog (unaged) Malt
Spirit was created due
to popular consumer
demand, and is a small
slice of what would
otherwise one day
become a fully-fledged
Single Malt Whisky. It has
a powerful fruity nose,
somewhat like tequila,
with a smooth malty
flavour.
Prepare to take your G&T
to new heights with what
is considered to be the
world’s strongest gin,
which comes in at a 77
per cent ABV. Apparently
when head distiller Liam
Pennycook first tasted the
uncut spirit straight from
the still he decided it was
too good not to share. If
G&T is not your thing it is
recommended you enjoy
this drop over ice with a
twist of lemon. Naked Gin
has a strong undertone of
juniper berry with a sweet
spiciness.
