Tanner girls hang
on, beat Methuen
By Anne Marie Tobin
The Peabody girls lacrosse
team nearly let a large lead slip
away Monday at home, but the
Tanners had just enough left in
the tank to hang on to a 10-9 win
over Methuen.
Colleen Crotty scored the
eventual game-winning goal
with about 17 minutes left in the
game, the Rangers made it interesting
by holding the Tanners
scoreless the rest of the way.
Methuen pulled to within one,
10-9 with 2:39 to go, but Amber
Kiricoples won a huge draw to
enable Peabody to run out the
clock
“We had possession, we won
the draws but just kept giving it
back to them, just too many unforced
turnovers, too many times
throwing it away,” said coach
Dennis Desroches. “That draw
was huge, because possession
was going to be a monster and it
was important to get possession.”
Crotty and Olivia Kiricoples
had four goals and one assist
each, while Maddy Lomasney
and Hailee Lomasney had a goal
and an assist.
Olivia Lavalle made seven
saves, including a key one late on
a free position shot.
Peabody improved to 9-1 and
needs one more win to clinch a
spot in the tournament.
