The party no longer lives at the address and the officer will be passing it along At 6:14 p.m. An officer attempted to return a lost wallet to 8 Hog Hill Road. The wallet was returned to a grandmother. At 6:27 p.m. An officer responded to a call about a male taking mushrooms for the first time and does not feel well. The male was transported to Lynn Union Hospital. At 7:24 p.m. an officer responded to a domestic disturbance in progress between a father and son. The son stated in the background that the father Police Log threatened him with a gun. At 10:48 p.m. an officer responded to a call about a group of people drinking in a parking lot. Saturday, May 5 At 12:35 a.m. an officer responded to a call about an intoxicated female out on the street between 20 Sewall Street and 13 Pierpont Street. No sign of females, but a report of a fight down the street was responded to by the officer. At 2:20 a.m. an officer responded to a call that a woman was beat up and was being harrassed. The officer reported the female was shoved. She was transported to Lahey Hospital. At 3:55 a.m. an officer responded to a report of a brush fire near the TD Bank above the location. The Fire Department was notified. Sunday, May 6 At 12:19 a.m. an unknown caller reported a possible sale of drugs outside of a purple Camry by a red-headed male parked in front of the above location. The only vehicle found in the area was a MA 9MKP10 that did not find the description of a Camry reported by the caller. The car was unoccupied. At 12:49 a.m. an officer responded to a report of a male walking to the rear of the YMCA while yelling on his phone. After a search the male could not be located. Careful: It’s “baby” season for wildlife Early spring marks the beginning of “Baby Season” for wildlife - the time when people are most likely to come upon wildlife babies, often found alone, without a parent anywhere in sight. Adults and children often think these wildlife babies have been abandoned by their mother and it’s not unusual for the public to want to protect and nurture them. It is illegal for people to care for wildlife in Massachusetts without a proper license. Almost always, the mother is nearby. Most wildlife parents leave their babies alone returning only one to several times a day to feed them. Adult wildlife do have a scent that predators can smell, however their babies do not. This is a survival mechanism designed by nature to protect wildlife babies from being detected by predators. Unfortunately, most people don’t know this. With the best intentions, the public will take what they think is an “orphan” wild animal and attempt to care for it, not realizing they are kidnapping a healthy and well-cared for baby. Wild babies are often offered food by the public that makes them sick, or worse, results in the baby dying. Doing this is illegal in Massachusetts without the proper permit. Most wild babies can’t drink from a bottle, an eye-dropper or anything else a well-meaning human comes up with. These babies get dehydrated, or aspirate fluid into their lungs, then become weak and often don’t survive. Those that live, don’t develop as well as babies raised by their wild mothers and are not as well equipped to defend themselves against predators. Once the baby shows signs that he’s not doing well, the person that brought the wild baby home will now start looking for help. Consequently, making baby season the busiest time of year for wildlife rehabilitators. Sadly, for many wild babies, it’s too late for even the most skilled wildlife rehabilitator to save them. Most baby animals will have a greater chance of surviving if you simply leave them alone. On the other hand, if you find a wild animal that is bleeding, has an obvious injury, or if you are unsure if it needs help, snap a picture or video with your cell phone and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. To find a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, go to www.mass. gov and use the search term; wildlife rehabilitation. You can send the picture or video to the rehabilitator and let her or him determine what to do next. The entire process was incredibly fun, but also relaxing. My mom and I barely touched our phones and I found myself getting lost in my work. We had so many laughs, and it was incredible seeing our finished product, especially because neither of us really do any form of arts and crafts. My pineapple turned out to be simple, yet so perfect, just how I wanted it to be. I only used three colors of sea glass. The angel my mom created was intricate, colorful and completely unique. She used sea glass, sand, starfish and many more materials to create a beautiful work of art. Once we completed the art our sea glass was set with a jewelry-grade resin. Create & Escape can do this in house, or you can use their take home kit and do it yourself if you prefer. We chose do have them set our designs and we picked them up the next day. Through the Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce Create & Escape received a Lease it Local grant, which aims to drive more business to the downtown area, and Create and Escape gives 15 percent back to their fundraisers. “People really want to see the downtown revived,” said Minton. Create & Escape is for men, women and children of all ages, and the encouraging environment helps foster creativity. The business is a family affair, the sisters, their children, husbands and other relatives all play a part in the business. Some family members have built the tables, while some of the children look for sea glass, as well as sorting colors. On Mother’s Day Create & Escape will be open 12-4:30 p.m. for workshops involving sea glass or wood signs.
