THE SISSINGHURST Village Fête on August Bank Holiday Monday is a traditional village event with a dog show, displays and children’s games and races, plus stalls exhibiting crafts and local produce including bees, books, bunting and bric-a-brac. Stall holders are encouraged to book early for a pitch. This year we are appealing for some new stall holders and helpers. Significantly, we don’t ask those selling for a fixed fee or pitch charge. All that we ask is for a donation based on how well you do on the day. We also really need some helpers; could you run a game stall or do a shift on a bouncy castle? We particularly welcome any newcomers to Sissinghurst or Cranbrook who would like to get involved. From 1pm the fête gets underway, with the traditional tug of war closing the day at 4.30pm. Why not be a holder or helper? Please contact the fête committee chairman, Andy Fairweather, on 07976 290185. The fête is in aid of all Sissinghurst Village organisations. Events include writing workshops, lectures, poetry performances, talks, competitions, a literary quiz and poetry busking, plus a pop-up bookshop for the duration of the festival in the George Hotel –all taking place on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September.
