usiness A Business Revival In Cranbrook The Cranbrook Business Association’s Hazel Broadley responds to fears Cranbrook is “dying on its feet” IT WAS interesting to read comments from local business owners in last edition’s article, Is Cranbrook “Dying on its Feet?”. As a committee, we found it really useful hearing from those who have been directly affected by fluctuating footfall in the town, and although we have already been out and about chatting to local shop owners, we hope to meet many more of you over the coming months. We will be expanding our efforts in 2018 to help local businesses help each other. The aims of the Cranbrook Business Association (CBA) are to: provide a central hub for local businesses to share knowledge and skills; provide formal and informal business-related training/advice; support and promote local events. IS CRANBROOK DYING? There are a still a number of shops for sale in Cranbrook and we need to seize this opportunity to welcome new ideas and increase our offering as a town. That said, new businesses are moving into the town all the time, which provides an impetus for growth and renewal. In the past five years, Cranbrook has welcomed a range of independent traders including a fancy dress shop, men’s clothing shop, coffee shop, beauty salon, gift shop, independent microbrewery, restaurant, educational games shop, cyber security company, two new estate agents and a law firm, among others. The redevelopment of the Cranbrook Pudding Club as a business networking event has attracted between 25-40 individuals to Cranbrook each month. The CBA is committed to supporting more businesses, and if you have some news or are planning a special event or promotion, why not get the ball rolling and let us know what your business is up to? REVIVING THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT One of the challenges the former CBA faced was a distinct “retailer vs officebased business” divide. The aim of the CBA is to bridge the gap so that all businesses – including shops, offices, remote businesses and online traders - can benefit equally from membership. And we are working to compile a programme of diverse training more info sessions and events. Our training programme kicked off with an insightful session on how to prepare for the forthcoming GDPR, and we will also be focussing on topics such as social media and cyber security. We are attracting new members each week, with 20 businesses signed up so far. We’re excited to see what more we can achieve this year, but we can’t do it alone. Therefore, we’re calling on local business owners who have ideas or suggestions to join forces for the good of the town. Businesses – we need you! The 63-year-old, who is running the Carriers Road business with daughter, Abby, 25, welcomed his first customers on 12 May. As well as an extensive range of bathrooms and tiles, Mr Davies can offer the very latest bathroom design and planning software including a 4D virtual reality theatre to help potential buyers create their own bathrooms before they are even installed.
