ith frenzied work days becoming
the norm, the last thing
working women need is their
B ritish designer E sin
Akan’ s handbags are stylish,
sophisticated and meet the
needs of working women on
the go. Her spring/ summer
City thrives on fashion
After languishing in the creative
backseat for years, consumers
are speaking up and
Akan makes sure she hears
them.
“I think brands that don’ t
take the consumer into consideration
are going to fail and the
emerging businesses cater to
these needs much faster,” said
Akan.
Akan asked hundreds of
women what they look for
in a handbag. “They want
light, uniq ue and understated
pieces. They don’ t want big
logos but they want something
practical, that is at the
core of every single bag we
make” she said.
Her bags have multiple functions.
They can be used as a
backpack, cross-body bag,
handbag and clutch.
“The bags are multipurpose
and we make them with the top
qua lity leathers,” Akan said.
The leather Akan uses for her
bags is the same leather used by
maj or brands such as B urberry
and G ivenchy.
“Our qua lity of craftsmanship
and leather is at the level of the
brands that are 1,000 pounds
but we want it to be accessible
to everyone so our prices are
below $500,” she said.
“Our latest collection
is inspired by E urope and
editerranean Islands,” said
Akan.
The bags were also inspired
by the nautical theme of the
M editerranean. M arine knots
can be seen on many of her
bags.
Her bags are rich in color and
would make a bold statement
piece perfect for any summer
outfit.
“I really like nautical colors
in general but we also have
basic colors like nude, red and
black because there is always a
season for them,” she said.
“Our customers are excited
by the fact that the bags are
uniq ue and you can’ t get it
anywhere else in the U .S. right
