tistic director at Givenchy.<br />
So the announcement, just<br />
inutes after Meghan arrived at<br />
t George’s Chapel, that the<br />
irst female director of the<br />
rench fashion house had<br />
eaten off competition from<br />
abels including Ralph &<br />
Russo, Erdem and Stella<br />
McCartney, came as a surprise.<br />
Born in Birmingham, Clare<br />
worked for Calvin Klein, Ralph<br />
Lauren, Tom Ford at Gucci<br />
and Pringle. In 2011 she<br />
became creative director of Chloé<br />
before moving to Givenchy in Paris<br />
last year. Her British predecessors<br />
there include Alexander McQueen,<br />
John Galliano and Julien Macdonald.<br />
“It is truly an honour to have been<br />
given the opportunity to closely<br />
collaborate with Meghan Markle on<br />
such a remarkable occasion,” Clare,<br />
47, said about designing the wedding<br />
gown, which she described as “such an<br />
extraordinary process of creativity”.<br />
She added: “It has been an immensely<br />
rewarding experience to get to know<br />
Meghan on a personal level, one I<br />
will forever carry with me.” H<br />
