For kiting, the most reliable time for wind is Winter (June-Sept) with winds ranging from 20 to 35knots, mainly from the S/SW but also through to NW. In Summer (Oct-May) the chances for wind are generally lower, with less of both: number of windy days per month and wind strength. Summer, however, is the time when the winds blow mainly from the East (with the odd SW’ly), which means clean cross-offshore conditions on the reef! Wave quality is also better through summer with regular long periods swells. Please note! Tide differences of about 2 meters are rather significant all year round and it’s important to always keep them in mind when heading out to the waves on the reef! Water temperature is a toasty 25ºC in summer, perfect for just boardies, yew! In winter, the water is about 18-20ºC, thus bring a steamer. The humidity averages in the 60% to 70% range year-round becoming more noticeable on warmer summer days than in the cooler winter months. PRICES: Lord Howe is certainly not a budget destination - an absolutely unique, uncrowded paradise, after all, has its price. Trust me, it’s so worth every penny! ELECTRICITY: 240 volts. TELEPHONE & MONEY MATTERS: Public phones available with a 24hr world satellite link. No mobile phone coverage. Credit cards are widely accepted and there is an ATM at the Bowling Club. Bring cash as a back-up. GETTING AROUND Bicycles are the way to go on the island and can be hired from either your accommodation or bike hires. Last but not least Remember to bring a head-torch!
