<strong>West</strong> <strong>Allegheny</strong> High School Track, Field Team Members Qualify for State Competition, Set Records The varsity girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in the WPIAL Individual finals at Baldwin High School on May 17, <strong>2012</strong>. The following relay teams and individuals qualified for the PIAA finals and set new school records in their respective events: Relay Teams - girls’ two-mile relay of Emily Pia, Barb Lesko, Alexis O’Shea, and Adelle Collins; girls’ 400-meter relay of Jen Forse, Kaci Vandergrift, Nia Cheeseboro, and Lauren Costa; and girls’ 1600-meter relay of Adelle Collins, Nia Cheeseboro, Lauren Costa, and Kaci Vandergrift; Individuals – 400-meter run, Kaci Vandergrift; and 100-meter hurdles, Lauren Costa. Lauren Costa also won the 100-meter dash to become a WPIAL champion. At print time the state finals were scheduled for May 25 and 26, <strong>2012</strong>, at Shippensburg University. Other WPIAL qualifiers included Nadiya Wahl on the girls’ team and Sam Costa, Ethan Schweinsberg, RJ Freese, Tom Bruni, Brent Perry, Will Page, Jake Johnson, Dylan Bongiorni, Zech Medved, Josh Coury, Zach Simmen, and Dustin Windemaker from the boys’ team. Several runners also distinguished themselves at the qualifying meet on May 9, <strong>2012</strong>, at <strong>West</strong> Mifflin by setting new school records. Adelle Collins set a new record of 2:19 in the 800-meter run, breaking the record set by Melissa Klobchar in 1997. With a time of 9:32, the girls’ 3200-meter (two-mile) relay team of Emily Pia, Barb Lesko, Alexis O'Shea, and Adelle Collins broke the record of 9:45 set in 1997.
