Parkway <strong>West</strong> Career and Technology Center students won<br />
multiple events at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA competition in<br />
Hershey. Junior Derek D’Amore and senior Seattle Buhite, both of<br />
<strong>West</strong> <strong>Allegheny</strong>; David Ball, Shelby Gill, and Rachel Zolkiewicz,<br />
seniors at Montour; and James Latimer, senior at Sto-Rox; all placed<br />
first in their events on April 19. The students’ professional skills,<br />
honed and polished in their Parkway programs, were judged on both<br />
written and performance tests. Derek D’Amore won the Collision<br />
Repair Technology competition, Seattle Buhite won the Health<br />
Occupations Portfolio event, and James Latimer, David Ball, Shelby<br />
Gill, and Rachel Zolkiewicz won the Entrepreneurship team<br />
competition for the second year in a row. These students are eligible<br />
to participate in the national championships, held in Kansas City,<br />
Missouri, in <strong>June</strong>.<br />
In all, 19 Parkway students competed. Also placing in the<br />
competition were Moon Area student Jesse Straffon, who placed<br />
second in Automotive Refinishing, and Carlynton student Alexandra<br />
Barnes, who place third in Cosmetology.<br />
Parkway students earning the opportunity to compete at the state<br />
level by placing first during regional competitions were: Adam Hosie,<br />
Alexander Schenken, Elizabeth Revuelta, Rachel Sailor, Elizabeth<br />
Burke, Marty Davis, Steve Lengyel, Emily McConkey, Trevor Urban,<br />
Jessica Barton, and Nathan Bateman.<br />
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit student organization that serves<br />
students enrolled in career and technical education programs<br />
nationwide.<br />

Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, <strong>June</strong> 27, from<br />
6 to 8 p.m., for students starting classes in July. Tour labs, talk to<br />
students and instructors, check out on-campus housing. It's not<br />
