PINEWOOD DERBY’S<br />
NEW TRACK A HIT<br />
Cub Scout Pack 848 of Oakdale<br />
had a terrific time in January at<br />
the annual Pinewood Derby<br />
Event. The new track sponsored<br />
by the <strong>West</strong> <strong>Allegheny</strong> Foundation<br />
made the day a huge<br />
success. The old track was barely<br />
usable. There were inconsistencies<br />
in the timing system, and the<br />
track needed to be jerry-rigged<br />
every year to get it to be satisfactory.<br />
Scott Zanella, submaster for<br />
the pack, stated, “Thanks to the<br />
<strong>West</strong> <strong>Allegheny</strong> Foundation’s<br />
grant for the new track, the set up<br />
was so easy and the races went<br />
off without a hitch.”<br />
As an activity with their<br />
parents, the boys turned a block<br />
of wood into a car of their own<br />
design to race against the other<br />
boys’ cars. The event was held at<br />
PTI. There were 42 racers and<br />
they ran a total of 84 races.
