1. A joint celebration of Canada’s 150 th birthday and the 25 th anniversary of the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre, home of the GWSA, featuring the GWSA Silvertones Choir. Over 300 people attended, along with local political dignitaries. Long-serving GWSA volunteers, Art and Dorothy Riley (33 years) and Nellie Jagt (25 years), were honoured and recognized for their dedication to the GWSA members. 2. New Members receptions were held quarterly to recognize and welcome new members with a showing of our promotional video and introduction to our Board of Directors and volunteer Activity Group Leaders. 3. Friday, November 10 th , “The Day Before”, Canada’s veterans and those currently serving in Canada’s military were remembered, recognized and honoured with a selection of wartime songs performed by the GWSA Silvertones. A montage of photos from various wartime theatres and videos of taped interviews with three GWSA members recollecting their WWII experiences were shown. They were followed by personal memories presented by a member of the local Guelph Legion. Voluntary donations were collected and a $1,000 cheque was subsequently donated to Guelph’s Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Trust Fund (see separate report, pg. 27). 4. For the second consecutive year, the GWSA had a float in the annual Santa Claus Parade. Volunteer members of the GWSA decorated the float and rode or marched in the parade. 5. The annual Variety Show was performed in front of large enthusiastic audiences over three performances, on November 30 th , December 1 st and December 2 nd . 6. On December 11 th , the GWSA’s “100 Year Old Club” was officially dedicated with the unveiling of a plaque, pictures and biographies of the first two centenarian inductees. The plaque is on view on the wall of the Evergreen reception area (see separate report, pg. 28). 7. Six seasonally-themed Friday afternoon dances were enjoyed by members and guests. 2017-2018 was a very busy year for the GWSA Board of Directors, the GWSA members and our many Volunteers. 2
