Fire chief
and
Selectmen
disagree
over next
contract
By Thomas Grillo
Lynnfield is looking for
new leadership in the
Fire Department, but
the fire chief says he’s not
going anywhere.
The three-member Board
of Selectmen voted unanimously
not to renew Mark
Tetreault’s contract at its
Monday meeting.
But Tetreault, who has
held the job since 2014 and
whose five-year contract
will end Dec. 31, said he disagrees
with the board.
In a brief telephone interview,
the 54-year-old New
Hampshire resident, said
he was hired under the socalled
“strong chief law.”
As a result, he said the selectmen
can only terminate
him the for “cause” from the
$115,000 a year post.
Tetreault’s contract, provided
by the town attorney,
says in the event the chief is
not reappointed, he is entitled
to three months severance pay.
Robert J. Dolan, town administrator,
declined comment.
While Dolan conducted a
performance review of the
chief, the town’s attorney
declined to provide a copy
saying the document is not
public record.
LCWD Outside Water Use Restriction
The Lynnfield Center Water District is raising the level of
restriction on outdoor watering to the use of a “hand-held
hose only.” This action is effective immediately due to the
Water Management Act Permit conditions required by the
Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.
These restrictions are also necessary for the District to
maintain an adequate water supply for fire protection and
domestic use. Violations of the restrictions are subject to a
fine or fines.
In a memo to the Fire
Department Dolan wrote, “In
my short time as town administrator,
I have been so impressed
with the dedication and professionalism
of each of you.
During this time of transition,
my expectation is that every
member of the department will
continue this professionalism
by respecting Chief Tetreault
and the office he holds, and remaining
steadfast in advancing
our department to provide the
best care and protection for the
citizens we serve every day.”
Tetreault declined to comment
saying the matter involves
private contract negotiations.
In an email to The Item he
wrote, “I thoroughly enjoy the
job and, as the Selectmen indicated,
they do not have any complaints
about my performance.
Sam Nelson to play
“An Organ Exposition” at
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church July 21
As part of its Centennial celebration,
St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church in Lynnfield, will
host organist Sam Nelson on
Saturday, July 21 at 8 p.m.
“An Organ Exhibition” is a
nod to Modest Mussorgsky’s
famed “Pictures at an
Exhibition,” his most wellknown
composition for piano.
The movements of the suite
are based on 10 paintings, with
each movement surrounded by
a Promenade that recurs in various
forms. As with the other
pieces on the program, this is a
transcription for organ of pieces
written originally for other
instruments.
Other works on the program
include Sinfonia from
Cantata 29 by Bach; Cavatina
from String Quartet No. 13 in
B-flat Major by Beethoven;
Hoe-Down from Rodeo by
Copland; and Concerto Grosso
in d minor, Op. 4, No. 11 by
Vivaldi. Donations will be
accepted.
Nelson was born in Lynn and
held his first organist position
at 12. He earned a Bachelor
of Music degree in Organ
Performance from Gordon
College in 2011. The following
year, he won second prize at
the Albert Schweitzer Organ
Festival. Last year, he completed
his Master of Music degree
in Organ Performance at
Boston University.
our staff provides wonderful
service to our citizens. I am
hopeful that we can work out a
mutually agreeable contract before
my current one expires at
the end of the year. If not, I will
still be chief and will be willing
to work without a contract, as is
often the case with fire chiefs
across the state.”
Tetreault did not respond to a
request for further comment or
to release his evaluation.
Before joining the Lynnfield
Fire Department, he headed
the Barnstead Fire Rescue,
and served as fire marshal
Londonderry Fire Department,
both in New Hampshire.
Philip Crawford, vice
chairman of the Board of
Selectmen, declined comment.
Chairman Richard Dalton
said it’s the town’s policy not to
comment on personnel matters.
Selectman Christopher
Barrett, and Lt. Kevin Mutti,
the firefighter’s union president,
did not return calls seeking
comment.
Sam Nelson is going to play “An Organ Exposition” at St. Paul’s
Episcopal Church on July 21.
Nelson is music director at St.
Paul’s Episcopal Church and is
a regular substitute organist at
Park Street Church, Boston.
St. Paul’s is a growing and
multigenerational parish of the
Episcopal Church that works
to deepen the spiritual life of
our community through diverse
outreach activities in Lynnfield
and surrounding communities.
Alexandra Caram, the library and media specialist at the Summer
Street Elementary School, was a finalist for Teacher of the Year.
BY THOMAS GRILLO
No one was more surprised
than Alexandra Caram when
she was named a Teacher of the
Year finalist.
“I was very shocked,” said the
library and media specialist at
the Summer Street Elementary
School. “When I got the news
I felt ridiculous because this is
only my sixth year as a teacher.”
Caram credited the school
district and colleagues for her
achievement.
“So much of my success
has to do with the fact that I’m
in Lynnfield schools, which
is a great place to work, and
Summer Street, which is filled
with veteran teachers who
humor me and my crazy ideas.”
Gregory Hurray, the school’s
principal, doesn’t think crazy is
the right adjective.
“Alex has expanded the role
of library and media specialist
from what we used to think of
as the librarian,” he said. “She
is the catalyst for independent
projects at the school and
teachers go to her for help in
crafting projects.”
One recent project coordinated
by Caram, he said, was
when third graders created the
ideal classroom complete with
sketches and models.
“The students devised spaces
to play table games, a place
for more technology, and pods
that include the kinds of things
you would see at the Children’s
Museum,” he said.
Now in her sixth year in
the pre K-4 school Lynnfield,
Caram received her graduate
degree in library science from
Simmons College in 2012 and
a post-bachelor’s certificate in
instructional technology from
Bridgewater State University in
2016.
She is passionate about children’s
literature, collaborating
with colleagues, and uses technology
with her students, according
to the Teacher of the
Year application.
While at the Summer Street
Elementary, Caram has transformed
a traditional library into
a school hub. She launched a
school space that allows students
to engage in creative
activities. She also built a socalled
calming space for students
who may need a break
from the classroom.
Staff say Caram is supportive
PREVENTING REPEAT SKIN CANCERS
“Squamous cell carcinoma,” the second most common type of skin cancer, is
usually found on sun-exposed skin, including the head, neck, ears, lips, arms,
legs, and hands. While it is a fairly slow-growing skin cancer, it can become
disfiguring, and sometimes deadly, if allowed to flourish. Squamous cell carcinoma
does not have an extremely high recurrence rate, but it is possible for it to
come back, especially if the squamous cell carcinoma had already advanced to
a later stage when it was first treated. It is important to note that a prescription
cream called “5-fluorouracil” (Adrucil) may help reduce the risk for squamous cell
carcinoma by 75 percent when applied in a thin layer twice a day
Fluorouracil cream is a powerful medication that must be used exactly as
directed. Keep it locked up so other people cannot mistakenly use it to treat a
rash. You should arrange for your dermatologist, family doctor, or skin cancer
specialist to review you during treatment to check on progress and to determine
how long to continue using fluorouracil cream. For more information, please call
A bravo performance for O’Brien
By Anne Marie Tobin
You couldn’t have scripted a more perfect ending to
the high school career of 2018 Lynnfield High graduate
Hayley O’Brien.
O’Brien was a one-girl show Sunday at the 21st
Agganis All-Star Softball Game, won by the North, 2-0.
She pitched three innings of middle relief for the
North, retiring all nine batters she faced without a
single ball getting out of the infield. She helped her
own cause with a hot glove with five combined putouts
and assists and one strikeout.
But it was her effort at the plate that was the difference.
She blasted an inside-the park home run to open
the third inning, drilling a line drive just inside the left
field foul line all the way to the fence.
She tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth, to
give the North a 2-0 lead.
“It just blew my mind what she did,” said North
coach Butch Melanaphy. “She hit two absolute bombs,
and then her pitching and fielding was just outstanding,
just an incredible performance and a great young lady.”
Ken Hodge. Said it was an experience she will never
By Daniel Kane
LYNN -- The 21st Agganis All-Star
Softball Game Sunday at Fraser Field
was a pitching duel, with the North defeating
the South, 2-0, thanks to an outstanding
performance from Lynnfield’s
Hayley O’Brien that included clutch hitting
and a dominant effort in the circle.
O’Brien went 2-for-2 with an inside
the park home run and a triple, scoring
the only two runs of the contest. She
also pitched three perfect innings and
recorded one strikeout, earning North
MVP honors.
“It was so much fun I loved every
second of it,” O’Brien, the lone senior
on Lynnfield’s roster this past season,
Hayley O’Brien pitched three innings of hitless relief
Sunday and helped the North beat the South, 2-0, in
the Agganis softball game.
forget.
“It was just an incredible honor to even just be selected
to play in this game,” O’Brien said. “There was
so much talent on the field and to win the MVP was just
something I never could have imagined. I loved every
second of it.”
For the past three years, O’Brien was a fixture in the
circle, helping to lead the Pioneers to two tournament
appearances in three years.
This year’s season was an up-and-down one, but the
team turned a corner as the season wound down.
Twice within a 10-day span in early May, the Pioneers
came within a whisker of upsetting the top team in the
league, then undefeated North Reading, only to come
up one run short.
They lost a 1-0 pitchers’ duel May 9. O’Brien did her
part, tossing a 3-hitter.
The week before, the Pioneers lost in eight innings,
6-5. O’Brien had the game-tying hit in the top of the
seventh.
The Pioneers closed the deal in their next game, defeating
Amesbury, a team they had not beaten in six
years, 7-6, coming behind from a 6-4 deficit in the
bottom of the seventh to win a walkoff.
said. “I was so nervous going into it but
I mean it was awesome. A perfect way
to end it.”
Lynn Classical’s Tori Adams (6 innings,
4 hits, 9 strikeouts, 5 walks)
earned South MVP honors.
North coach Butch Melanaphy said he
was fortunate to be able to coach four
of his Peabody seniors (Kelsie Blake,
Mallory LeBlanc, Sydney Lowry and
Luciana Mastromatteo) and was honored
to be part of the game for the second
time in four years.
“It’s an honor to do this it really
is, to get picked for this is an honor,”
Melanaphy said. “I told the girls just
have fun and go up there and hit, enjoy
the game. I really liked it. It was fun.
“It was great to be able to coach my
players one last time. It’s the last I’ll see
them, they’re four great young ladies.
“And Hayley O’Brien, what a game
she had, both pitching and hitting, she
was outstanding today and deserved the
MVP, that’s for sure not only for the way
she played but for being such a wonderful
person. A delight to coach, not
doubt about it.”
Each team’s pitchers dominated most
of the game, including Amesbury’s
Hayley Catania (2 hits, 5 strikeouts) who
started and went three innings.
O’Brien, who will be playing at
Fitchburg State next year, led off the
O’Brien gets ready to run after hitting a triple
during Sunday’s Agganis game.
“My first ever start was against Amesbury at their
field when I was a freshman, and it was just horrible,”
she said. “It was great to beat them. We knew after the
North Reading games that we have what it takes. We
showed up to play that week.”
It got even better for O’Brien in her next start.
All she did was toss a complete-game no-hitter
against Ipswich in the Pioneers’ 17-0 May 4 road win.
Only a 2-out walk in the fourth inning standing between
her and perfection.
“I had two strikes on her, but just got out of my
routine and could not get it back,” said O’Brien, a
Fitchburg State commit. “I had no idea they had no hits
until the last inning. I was just so happy when Breanna
(Serabian) caught that pop-up to end the game.”
O’Brien is excited to move on to the next phase of her
life at Fitchburg where she plans to major in nursing.
“I know it will be tough balancing softball and
nursing,” she said. “It was definitely love at first sight,
once I had my overnight visit last October. Having epilepsy
was a big factor in my decision to go into nursing
as I can relate a personal level. I can’t wait to get there.”
North Agganis softball squad wins pitcher’s duel
third inning and scorched a line drive
down the left field foul line that rolled
all the way to the fence in no time flat,
allowing her to give the North the 1-0
lead with a home run.
“She hit that ball so far she could have
walked around the bases twice and still
scored,” Melanaphy said.
In the sixth inning, O’Brien led off
with a triple and scored on a passed ball
to give the North an insurance run.
O’Brien also flashed a mean glove,
accounting for a combined five putouts
and assists.
Fenwick’s Natalie Medros, Courtney
Norton and Katie Olsen of Peabody also
played for the North squad.

Agganis football on tap for tonight
By Anne Marie Tobin
LYNN — With the summer season
officially underway, that means only
one thing to 315 recently-graduated student-athletes;
it’s time for the annual
Agganis All-Star Classics and one final
chance to play alongside former teammates
and old rivals.
The games are a sports lover’s delight
featuring some of the region’s best athletes
who will compete in baseball, basketball,
lacrosse, soccer, softball and, of
course, the granddaddy of them all, football,
which is set to be played tonight
(Thursday) at 7 at Manning Field.
Last year’s football classic was a defensive
battle, won by the North 10-6
in the lowest scoring game since 1992
when West defeated East, 9-7.
As usual, the football rosters includes
several local athletes from Lynnfield and
Peabody.
The Pioneers will be represented on
the South squad by wide-receiver Nick
Kinnon, quarterback Matt Mortellite,
defensive back/wide receiver Jason
Ndansi, running back/linebacker
Anthony Murphy and tight end/linebacker
Cooper Marengi, Ndansi and
Mortellite plan to continue their football
careers Tufts and St. Lawrence, respectively,
while Marengi will play baseball
Catering
available
at Endicott and Kinnon is still undecided.
Peabody’s Eric DeMayo is only
Tanner to suit up; the Wagner University
commit will also play on the South
squad, which will be coached by Chris
Carroll of Lynn English.
Tickets for the game will be on sale at
the gate and are $8 for adults and $5 for
children.
For its first 40 years, the Agganis
Football Classic was the primary fundraiser
for the Agganis Foundation. In
1995, the Foundation began branching
out into other sports when baseball was
added. It was an appropriate new addition,
considering Harry Agganis was a
first baseman for the Boston Red Sox.
But the Agganis All-Star Classics are
more than just games; they are the major
fundraising vehicle for the foundation’s
scholarship program that awards college
scholarship aid to deserving seniors who
have excelled in academics and athletics.
Since its inception in 1955, the Agganis
Foundation has awarded $1,955,000 in
college scholarships to 964 deserving student
athletes. Each year, 15 new four-year,
$4,000 scholarships are awarded to students
on the North Shore and in Boston. Thanks
to the generosity of the Yawkey Foundation,
there are four scholarships earmarked to
students in Boston schools each year.
Several local students are among this
year’s recipients.
Lynnfield High graduates Kate
Mitchell and Lizzie Shaievitz received
Greg Agganis Scholarship awards, while
Bishop Fenwick’s Colby Flickinger
and Jennie Meagher received Agganis
Scholarship awards. Mitchell will be attending
Boston College, where she plans
to run cross country and track, while
Shaievitz will be attending St. Anselm
College, where she plans to play soccer.
Flickinger will be attending Indiana
University, while Meagher will be attending
Villanova University.
This games began Sunday morning at
Manning Field in Lynn with the Awards
ceremony and introduction of all the allstars
and softball and baseball games at
Fraser Field.
The games are named after Harry
Agganis, who was a football and baseball
star at Lynn Classical and Boston
University, and played for the Red Sox.
He died at age 26 in 1955.
Relihan, Arsenault star in boys hoop game
By Mike Alongi
LYNN — The 14th annual
Agganis All-Star Boys
Basketball Game brought together
the top talent from the
North Shore and beyond at
Conigliaro Gymnasium, and
the South team rode a second-half
rally to a big 92-66
victory over the North Monday
evening.
Marblehead’s James Millett
was awarded the MVP for the
South team after putting up a
double-double with 13 points
and 12 rebounds. Most of his
damage came in the second
half, where he and fellow
Magician Derek Marino (12
points, four rebounds) helped
break the game wide open.
“We had a bit of a slow
start but were still able to take
that lead into halftime,” said
South coach Dave Brown, who
coaches the St. Mary’s boys
team. “But in the second half
I told the guys, ‘whoever is
playing defense is staying on
the floor.’”
For the North, Beverly’s
Luigi Derrane led the way with
19 points to earn MVP honors.
St. John’s Prep forward Matt
Relihan (12 points, three rebounds)
and Melrose guard
Joe Stanton (10 points) were
the only other North players in
double figures. Peabody’s Jake
Irvine added six points in the
loss.
The North got off to a great
start, taking an early 13-4 lead
thanks to some solid hustle
plays and great passing from
St. John’s Prep’s Matt Relihan, left, of Lynnfield, had 12 points
for the North in Monday’s Agganis boys basketball game. The
Pioneers’ Billy Arsenault was also solid. The South won, 92-66.
who will be playing at Division
2 Assumption College. But the
South stuck around the whole
time, eventually cutting the
deficit to just two points with
two minutes left in the first half.
In the final minute of the half,
Classical’s Ishmael Johnson
(seven points, five rebounds)
scored four quick points to give
the South its first lead. When
the buzzer sounded, the South
held a slim lead at 32-31.
The second half saw a number
of highlight plays, both good
and not-so-good. The entire audience
got a good laugh about
five minutes into the half when
Hamilton-Wenham’s James
Lust ing had a momentary lapse
an inbound pass at the top of
the key, Lusting, playing for
the North team, turned around
and bolted toward the opposite
hoop and flipped in a layup,
giving the South team an extra
two points.
St. Mary’s Stephen Fama of
Hopes running high for Little Leaguers
By Anne Marie Tobin
LYNNFIED — When the
Lynnfield Little League all-stars
open the District 16 tournament
tonight (5:45) at Volunteer Field
in Lynn against the winner of the
June 26 game between Saugus
American and Peabody, hopes are
high that this is the year Lynnfield
finally wins it all.
It’s been nine long years since
a Lynnfield 12-year-old all-star
team has taken a victory lap with
the District 16 championship
banner.
While Lynnfield can always
be counted upon to be a contender
and in the mix for the title,
being able to win it all has eluded
Lynnfield in recent years.
Last year’s team had a promising
start with exciting comefrom-behind
wins against Winthrop
and Saugus American only
to be eliminated early with disappointing
losses in its next two
games.
While this year’s team has no
returning players, simply put,
Lynnfield is stacked with players
who know a thing or two about
winning.
All 12 players from last year’s
11-year old Section 4 championship
team have moved up to the
12-year old team. As 11s, they
steamrolled the competition in
the District 16 tournament, outscoring
opponents 50-8 in four
games and winning three of them
by 10 or more runs, then went on
to defeat Andover National 6-5 in
a real thriller in the Section 4 final,
rallying from a 5-0 deficit with six
runs in the top of the sixth.
As 10-year olds, they also won
a district title giving the team the
unique honor as the only Lynnfield
League team to win back-to-back
district titles in two different age
groups.
“In the last two years we have
never lost a game in districts, so
I’m not surprised to hear that every
team will be gunning for us,” said
manager Matt Adamo. “It’s been
a great run. We are fortunate that
we have great depth with every
player on the team capable of hitting
and fielding and nine or 10
kids who can pitch, plus our defense
is phenomenal. That puts us
in a unique position when it comes
to back-to-back games.”
The pitching staff will be led
by lefty ace Nathan Lopez with
Daniel Dorman, Anthony Grabau,
newcomer Nicholas Hubbard,
Mathew Papagikos, Christian
Rosa and Jarret Scoppetuolo also
in the rotation mix. Dorman,
Hubbard, Papagikos, Rosa and
Scoppetuolo will also see time in
the outfield, while Grabau will
also see time at first base.
“Nathan is definitely our ace
and is a real difference maker,”
said Adamo. “He throws hard and
throws strikes, which helps our
defense make plays in the field.”
Hubbard is the only player on
the team not returning from the
2017 11-year-old team, but may
be the most versatile. He is also
in the first base and outfield mix.
Ryan MacEachern and Brendan
Manoogian will man the hot
corner at third base, while Tyler
Adamo will play second base and
Nicholas Groussis will hold down
the fort at shortstop. Cole Hawes
and Nicholas Lucich will split
time behind the dish.
Matt Adamo says the team has
power potential at the plate.
“Again, we have depth offensively
with speed, power and
the ability to make contact,” he
said. “We have six or seven kids
with home run potential with
Hubbard, Dorman, Grabau, Rosa,
Scoppetuolo and MacEachern.”
Peter Groussis and Glenn
Grabau will once again serve as
assistant coaches.
Agganis game marks end of an
era for Marengi, Giammarco
By Anne Marie Tobin
LYNN — The end of an era.
That’s what 2018 Lynnfield High
graduate Cooper Marengi had to say following
the final baseball game of his and
Pioneer teammate Nick Giammarco’s
careers Sunday at the 24th Agganis All-
Star Baseball game at Fraser Field.
“Nick and I have been playing with
each other since he moved here in the
fourth grade, so it feels a little ironic that
we are ending are careers as teammates
for the last time,” Marengi said. “It’s
the last time we will play together as
Lynnfield teammates, so this game will
always be a special memory.”
While Marengi, who served as a senior
captain for the football and baseball
teams and also was a 2-time hockey
captain, earning all-star honors in all
three sports, intends to play baseball at
Endicott, Giammarco has chosen a different
route.
“I intend to major in forensics at St.
Anselm and honestly feel I need to not
miss anything academically, so playing
baseball just didn’t make sense,” he
said. “I know police sometimes get a
Registration is now open
for the 51st annual Lynnfield
Athletic Association 4th of
July 5k road race. The race
will be held Wednesday, July
4. The race starts and finishes
at the Lynnfield Town Hall at
55 Summer Street. Start time
is 9 a.m. All proceeds from
this year’s race will be used
to fund the purchase of track
and field equipment at the new
Lynnfield Middle School track.
Participants can register online
at www.active.com.. The fees
are $20 (17 and under) and $25
(18 and over). Race day registration
is also available beginning
at 7:30 a.m. Runners are
bad rap, but I want to make a difference
working in a crime lab, and knowing
that so much time will be spent toward
doing that, so I couldn’t do both.
“Playing today is a perfect ending, a
bittersweet ending, but it was an honor
to be selected to play and it felt great to
play with so many talented players. It’s
definitely a game I will never forget and
a great way to end my baseball career.”
Marengi and Giammarco were key
contributors in the game, helping the
North to a 13-1 win over the South.
The game was up for grabs going into
the sixth with the North leading 4-1.
But the North exploded for seven runs
to put the game in the bank.
Giammarco was on base in two of
his three at-bats with a single and error,
and scored two runs, while Marengi was
2-for-4 with two RBI.
Marengi went out with a bang,
smashing a 2-run homer over the Fraser
fence in right to keep the sixth inning
rally going.
“That was a shot, but not as long as
the one he hit against Ipswich in the Pete
Frates game,” said Giammarco. “That
Registration underway for July 4 roadrace
A new feature this year is a
Virtual 5k option for participants
who are not available to
race participants can run or
indoors on a treadmill.
The fee is $20 and includes an
LAA race t-shirt and commemorative
Awards will be given out in a
variety of age categories ranging
from 10 and under to 70 and
over. Special recognition will
go towards the event’s overall
winners and the overall winners
for sure.
Marengi intends to major in athletic
training with a business minor.
“Eventually I want to open my own
business and Endicott is strong in both
programs,:” he said. “I’m just looking
forward to another four years of baseball.
I can’t imagine my life without
sports and I am grateful that I get to keep
playing.”
Lynnfield coach John O’Brien has
high praise for the Pioneer pair.
“Cooper’s the only kid I ever had that
hit eight home runs other than Mike
Roberts, who also hit eight,” he said.
“He’s played terrific in the outfield and
I’m glad he’s found a spot so he could
take it off his mind and he can just focus
on playing his last season for us.
“Nick came on and played terrific
behind the plate and at third base,” said
O’Brien. “He got his chance as a senior
and was a key member of this team. He
played great defense at third and called
great games catching our pitchers, so I
will definitely miss both of them.”
LYNN-- The 24th Agganis All-Star
baseball game was a one-sided affair
after the North team’s bats came alive
to give them a 13-1 win over the South
squad on Sunday afternoon at Fraser
Field.
Spencer Brown (Beverly) was 2-for-4
with three RBI including a home run in
fourth inning. The performance earned
him MVP honors for the North squad.
“It’s my last high school game so it
meant a lot to me,” Brown, the co-MVP
of the Northeastern Conference, said.
“To be able to come out here and play
with some of the best players around was
great.”
Lynnfield’s Cooper Marengi also
added a home run and went 2-for-4
with two RBI, while Peabody’s Tyler
MacGregor (St. John’s Prep) was 3-for-4
with three RBI. Peabody’s Josh Cerretani
(St. John’s Prep) also added an RBI and
scored two runs, while Nick Giammarco
singled, reached on an error and scored
two runs.
“It’s an honor to be asked to do this
and be apart of this with these guys,”
North coach Ryan McCarthy, of Triton,
said. “It’s nice to set a lineup and know
you have 15 guys who love the game.”
The North carried a 4-1 lead into the
sixth, but put seven runs on the board to
put the game out of reach. Key to the rally
were a leadoff single by Giammarco, a
2-run triple by Brown, an RBI double
by MacGregor, and Marengi’s windshield-smashing
bomb to right-center
that brought two runs home. Cerretani
capped the scoring after working a walk,
scoring on a single by Danvers’ Nick
Raimo.
The teams played the bottom half of
the seventh inning in order to give a the
South an opportunity for another pitcher.
The extra half-inning gave MacGregor
the chance to add two more runs with his
third hit of the day..
A handful of pitchers helped secure the
win for the North team including David
Furtado (Bishop Fenwick), Andrew
Manni (Masconomet), and Brady
McGarry (Billerica).
