In town this month (cont)...
Alexander Johnson
Deanland continues at
35 North, in North
Road. Emotive,
abstract landscapes by
Laughton-based painter
Alexander Johnson
are shown alongside
the photographs of
John Brockliss, who has documented the project
from start to finish. Find out more about this creative
collaboration on pg 58.
Brush Gallery and Nineteen Hotel join forces for
UNITY, a group exhibition in celebration of Pride.
It features both established and emerging artists
including Maria Rivans, Bonnie & Clyde, Romany
Mark Bruce, Michelle Mildenhall and Ruth Mulvie,
to name a few. The event takes place at the hotel, in
Kemptown’s Broad Street, on Thursday the 26th from
7pm with a gin-themed reception. 10% of sales will be
donated to The Albert Kennedy Trust, the UK’s LGBT
youth homelessness charity. (Viewings can be arranged,
by appointment, throughout August.)
The Wonder Project
Out of town...
Now is the time to book your tickets for the Surrealist Picnic in the garden at Farleys House & Gallery in
Muddles Green on the 26th of August (£15). Dressing up is actively encouraged, so don your best lampshade,
pack a kipper jelly in your picnic basket and prepare to lose yourself in jazz, surrealism and performance in
the glorious sculpture garden [farleyshouseandgallery.co.uk]. More outdoor art abounds at Wakehurst Place,
which plays host to a summer evening arts experience. The
Wonder Project will weave on a two-mile journey through its
gardens and woodlands, with soundscapes, sculptures and art
installations inspired by Wakehurst’s plants and the work of
Kew’s scientists at the onsite Millennium Seed Bank. More on
pg 53. (26th - 29th July, and 2nd - 5th August, 7pm-9.30pm.
Gates open 6.30pm. Last entry 7.30pm, and gardens close
10pm. Visit kew.org/wakehurst to book.)
