1. A joint celebration of Canada’s 150 th birthday and the 25 th anniversary of<br />

the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre, home of the GWSA, featuring<br />

the GWSA Silvertones Choir. Over 300 people attended, along with local<br />

political dignitaries. Long-serving GWSA volunteers, Art and Dorothy<br />

Riley (33 years) and Nellie Jagt (25 years), were honoured and recognized<br />

for their dedication to the GWSA members.<br />

2. <strong>New</strong> Members receptions were held quarterly to recognize and welcome new members with a showing<br />

of our promotional video and introduction to our Board of Directors and volunteer Activity Group<br />

Leaders.<br />

3. Friday, November 10 th , “The Day Before”, Canada’s veterans and those currently serving in Canada’s<br />

military were remembered, recognized and honoured with a selection of wartime songs performed by<br />

the GWSA Silvertones. A montage of photos from various wartime theatres and videos of taped interviews<br />

with three GWSA members recollecting their WWII experiences were shown. They were<br />

followed by personal memories presented by a member of the local Guelph Legion. Voluntary donations<br />

were collected and a $1,000 cheque was subsequently donated to Guelph’s Royal Canadian Legion<br />

Poppy Trust Fund (see separate report, pg. 27).<br />

4. For the second consecutive year, the GWSA had a float in the annual<br />

Santa Claus Parade. Volunteer members of the GWSA decorated the<br />

float and rode or marched in the parade.<br />

5. The annual Variety Show was performed<br />

in front of large enthusiastic<br />

audiences over three performances,<br />

on November 30 th , December 1 st<br />

and December 2 nd .<br />

6. On December 11 th , the GWSA’s “100 Year Old Club” was officially<br />

dedicated with the unveiling of a plaque, pictures and biographies<br />

of the first two centenarian inductees.<br />

The plaque is on view on the wall<br />

of the Evergreen reception area (see separate<br />

report, pg. 28).<br />

7. Six seasonally-themed Friday afternoon dances<br />

were enjoyed by members and guests.<br />

<strong>2017</strong>-<strong>2018</strong> was a very busy year for the<br />

GWSA Board of Directors, the GWSA<br />

members and our many Volunteers.<br />
