I speak not <strong>of</strong> Myself; but <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r which dwells<br />

in Me, He doeth <strong>the</strong> works." (<strong>John</strong> 14:10) Note <strong>the</strong><br />

change in expressi<strong>on</strong>, showing that <strong>the</strong> Word is <strong>the</strong><br />

work. We should naturally expect <strong>the</strong> sentence to<br />

run thus: "The words that I speak unto you, I speak<br />

not <strong>of</strong> Myself; but <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r which dwelleth in<br />

Me, He speaketh <strong>the</strong>m." And that is what Christ<br />

really said, for whenever God speaks something is<br />

d<strong>on</strong>e. "By <strong>the</strong> Word <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lord were <strong>the</strong> heavens<br />

made." (Ps. 33:6) Now read (<strong>John</strong> 8:28), and find<br />

<strong>the</strong> counterpart <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> verse in our less<strong>on</strong>. "When<br />

you have lifted <strong>the</strong> S<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> man, <strong>the</strong>n shall ye know<br />

that I am (He), and that I do nothing <strong>of</strong> Myself; but<br />

as My Fa<strong>the</strong>r hath taught Me, I speak <strong>the</strong>se things."<br />

In <strong>the</strong> first text quoted, we read that Jesus does not<br />

speak His own words, but that <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r does <strong>the</strong><br />

works; in this we read that Jesus does not do <strong>the</strong><br />

works Himself, but that <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r speaks in Him.<br />

Thus we see that <strong>the</strong> Word and <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> God are<br />

<strong>on</strong>e and <strong>the</strong> same thing. If <strong>the</strong> Word <strong>of</strong> God abides<br />

in us, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> works <strong>of</strong> God will be manifested.<br />

"This is <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> God, that ye believe <strong>on</strong> Him<br />

whom He hath sent." (<strong>John</strong> 6:29) Great Works and<br />

Greater Works<br />
