John 3:1-16
Chapter 4
The New Birth
There was a man of the Pharisees, named
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; the same came to
Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know
that Thou art a teacher come from God; for no man
can do these miracles that Thou doest, except God
be with him." (John 3: 1, 2) It is well when those
who have the truth of God have such power with
them that men cannot fail to see that God is with
them. God has promised that it shall be so, and that
means that He expects it to be so. He says to His
people, concerning the men of earth: "They shall
fall down unto thee, and make supplication unto
thee, saying, Surely, God is in thee; and there is
none else, there is no God." (Isa. 45:14) When the
Jewish Sanhedrin talked with Peter and John, they
gave the credit of their boldness to the Lord. (Acts
4:13) So when a great miracle was wrought by the
agency of Peter, "all that lived at Lydda and Saron
