Chapter 4<br />

The New Birth<br />

There was a man <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Pharisees, named<br />

Nicodemus, a ruler <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Jews; <strong>the</strong> same came to<br />

Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know<br />

that Thou art a teacher come from God; for no man<br />

can do <strong>the</strong>se miracles that Thou doest, except God<br />

be with him." (<strong>John</strong> 3: 1, 2) It is well when those<br />

who have <strong>the</strong> truth <strong>of</strong> God have such power with<br />

<strong>the</strong>m that men cannot fail to see that God is with<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. God has promised that it shall be so, and that<br />

means that He expects it to be so. He says to His<br />

people, c<strong>on</strong>cerning <strong>the</strong> men <strong>of</strong> earth: "They shall<br />

fall down unto <strong>the</strong>e, and make supplicati<strong>on</strong> unto<br />

<strong>the</strong>e, saying, Surely, God is in <strong>the</strong>e; and <strong>the</strong>re is<br />

n<strong>on</strong>e else, <strong>the</strong>re is no God." (Isa. 45:14) When <strong>the</strong><br />

Jewish Sanhedrin talked with Peter and <strong>John</strong>, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

gave <strong>the</strong> credit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir boldness to <strong>the</strong> Lord. (Acts<br />

4:13) So when a great miracle was wrought by <strong>the</strong><br />

agency <strong>of</strong> Peter, "all that lived at Lydda and Sar<strong>on</strong><br />
