8 SEED TO OAKS Business Plan How We Work with Churches Although any church can implement any of our guided initiatives in their community at any time, we recommend our 4-phase process that has been proven to move churches beyond typical relief ministries to sustainable community development. Neighborhood 360 Assessment Congregational Assessment Missional Strategy Alignment Phase 1 Phase 2 Understand the Neighborhood Phase 1 begins with understanding the community surrounding each local congregation. We guide churches to build their own neighborhood profile that accurately reflects the neighborhood’s dreams, desires, wants and needs. Align Church Passions With Neighborhood Needs Phase 2 begins with an assessment of the congregation’s passions and gifting’s. The goal is to discover where the congregation’s gifts and leadership abilities align with the community’s needs. Specific tasks: 1. Select a team of 4-6 deacon quality leaders to conduct the study. 2. Research neighborhood demographics, history, and culture. 3. Conduct in-depth interviews with key community stakeholders. 4. Survey neighbors 5. Present a 10-12 page report on the findings. Specific tasks: 1. Conduct a congregational gifts assessment. 2. Identify where the congregations gifts align or match the needs of the community. 3. Evaluate the leadership capacity of the church to implement new missional strategies. 4. Select a ministry program that excites the church and meets the real needs of the community.
SEED TO OAKS Business Plan 9 Implementation Serve the Community Phase 3 Phase 4 Develop a Mission Strategy Phase 3 begins with developing an action plan to help make the ministry a reality. Many times, a Seed to Oaks existing program can be adapted and/or adopted as a strong launching point for the church’s new efforts. Serve the Community! Phase 4 is focused on serving the community in a new and exciting way. Church members are always excited to get involved, lend their professional expertise, and make a long-term difference in the lives of people who live in the church’s surrounding neighborhoods. Specific tasks: 1. Make an action plan with clear goals, objectives, detailed timelines, resources needed and defined leadership teams and roles. 2. Adapt or adopt existing Seed to Oaks programs OR we assist churches in the creation of new ministries for their community.
