Visconti’s final film “Innocent” is a haunting account of aristocratic chauvinism and sexual double<br />
standards in turn of the century Italy. Wealthy Tullio Hermili thinks nothing of squiring his mistress<br />
in full view of his friends and the public. But when his cast-off wife begins an affair with a young<br />
novelist, it is too much for the philandering aristocrat.<br />

Italian theatre, opera and cinema director. He was born into one of Northern<br />
Italy’s richest families as one of the Duke of Modrone’s seven children.<br />
Visconti developed the movement of “Italian neo-realism” together with<br />
other directors such as Vittorio De Sica or Roberto Rossellini in the 1940s<br />
and 1950s. OSSESSION (1943), the first neorealist movie was banned in the<br />
United States, an unofficial adaptation of the novel “The Postman Always<br />
Rings Twice”. THE INNOCENT is his last film.<br />
