Security industry Room 101 For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, in George Orwell’s novel 1984 there is a torture chamber called Room 101 where the prisoner is subjected to their worst nightmare, fear or phobia with the object or breaking them down. In recent years a TV programme has taken the idea asking public figures to provide their own pet hates to be condemned to oblivion. As we’ve all just returned nice and relaxed from our summer holidays, we felt it was a good time to ask what gets the wind up security industry experts. David Davies – DVS Room 101 needs to be a big room! If I could put anything into this, it would be unprofessional installations that end up on social media! This is my biggest bugbear and has been for some time now. Logging in every day and seeing some of the poor standard of work that is sadly being installed and charged for doesn’t do this industry any favours at all. In some cases, these installations are dangerous to say the least and where life safety is at risk you wonder and hope these systems don’t have to be relied upon. This industry has some of the best people that truly are inspiring with unquestionable work ethic and standards, and when you see some of the work that others are doing. While cutting every corner for price and time, you wonder then why the end result does end up on social media. I have said it many times and will keep saying it, it’s time we have a more enforceable certified scheme that shows the competency of installers and companies. The trend towards smart solutions is accelerating at a pace, both in residential applications as well as commercial and industrial sectors.
