Sewtec is launching compact<br />
versions of its existing large-scale<br />
track & trace (T&T) systems to<br />
ensure all tobacco manufacturers<br />
can comply <strong>with</strong> the EU Tobacco<br />
Products Directive which comes<br />
into full force next May.<br />
The company plans to launch<br />
this compact system by the end<br />
of this year, <strong>with</strong> manufacturers<br />
able to install the systems before<br />
the regulations come into effect.<br />
These systems are designed to<br />
deliver operational efficiencies<br />
to help manufacturers realise the<br />
commercial benefits of enhanced<br />
supply chain management and<br />
richer data.<br />
OPERATIONS GAINS<br />
“Although this is spurred on<br />
by the requirements of the<br />
Directive, all tobacco companies<br />
will benefit from T&T systems<br />
as it will improve operations and<br />
logistics while avoiding costly<br />
penalties,” says Mark Cook,<br />
managing director at Sewtec.<br />

Vacuum gripper design is<br />
easy to do <strong>with</strong> new tool<br />
The new 3D printed<br />
customisable bag<br />
gripper (CBG) design<br />
tool from Piab is a special<br />
software program that allows<br />
customers to design/configure<br />
world-class and lightweight<br />
vacuum grippers for the<br />
perfect handling of bags and<br />
pouches weighing up to 2 kg<br />
<strong>with</strong>in minutes. The company<br />
says it provides optimally<br />
designed vacuum gripper<br />
tools for best-in-class grip on<br />
specific bags or pouches.<br />
“Our customers can now<br />
design their own unique<br />
gripper tools for even the most<br />
challenging of applications<br />
<strong>with</strong> bags or pouches that are<br />
really very tricky to get a grip<br />
on,” explains Josef Karbassi,<br />

is just a two minute job.”<br />

The customised grippers<br />
are designed to include<br />
everything required for<br />
gripping bags or pouches<br />
reliably, even at high speed.<br />

decentralised (one per cup)<br />
dust proof SX12 coax vacuum<br />
generators, piGRIP ‘bag-lip’<br />
suction cups, stabilisers around<br />
the cup, and an automatic<br />
