GOOD, BETTER, BEST – NEVER LET IT REST.
REGARDLESS OF THE VARIOUS
TAX SYSTEMS, CULTURES AND
NATIONALITIES WE MET, THE
COMMON ELEMENT ALWAYS
CAME BACK TO ONE ELEMENT -
THEIR STAFF.
As this edition of the QHA Review goes to print, I have just returned from
accompanying members from across the state on a successful QHA
Study Tour to several Nordic countries. We were fortunate to see how the
hospitality, accommodation and tourism industries in these places not only
deal with a small window of opportunity due to extreme weather conditions
so far north, but create a competitive advantage out of it.
All of the successful businesses we met had a laser-like focus on their
business opportunities, but also on improving the customer experience
to ensure customers stayed longer, recommended them or returned with
friends; no matter whether it was adventure tourism, memorable restaurants
or simply a local bar. Regardless of the various tax systems, cultures and
nationalities we met, the common element always came back to one element
- their staff.
This fact simply re-enforces the message we receive from the judges of the
QHA Awards for Excellence each year. As the judges visit our 2018 Finalists,
announced in this edition of the QHA Review, the deciding factor is often
the enthusiastic, informed and well-trained staff in our member venues. If
you think your staff are good or even the best in the business, never be
satisfied. Bring them to our next event or join our next Study Tour. You will be
astounded at how much there is still to learn across this tremendous industry.
See you at the Awards Night in October!
