CONSIDER THIS
Jesus’ invitation to Simon, Andrew, and Levi is the same
invitation issued to you as well: “Come follow me!” Have you
answered his call? Have you responded as these people did,
immediately leaving behind your former life and running after
Jesus’ new one? Spend some time considering this question
and how you’ve responded to it.
1 “Jacob” is a literal rendering from the original Greek. This disciple is
more widely known as James.
2 The Bible as we know it was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic,
and Greek. In recent years, there have been many new discoveries
regarding these original manuscripts, especially the Aramaic ones of
the New Testament in addition to the Greek. The Aramaic texts are
an important added lens through which to view God’s original Word to
us.
