At the Passover meal, Jesus told his disciples to<br />
receive his body <strong>and</strong> drink his blood, which were<br />
symbolic of what his body would experience <strong>and</strong><br />
the blood he would shed. We continue that “meal”<br />
with the Lord’s Supper, or Communion. Knowing<br />
what these elements symbolize, how should they<br />
impact your experience of the heart of God every<br />
time you receive them?<br />
• Has there ever been a time when, like Peter, you<br />
denied Jesus or were embarrassed you were<br />
associated with him as a Christian? If so, what was<br />
that like?<br />
• Just before Jesus was crucified, in anguish <strong>and</strong><br />
grief he prayed that his Father would take away<br />
from him the “cup of suffering.” Yet, he quickly<br />
added, “Yet what I want is not important, for I only<br />
desire to fulfill your plan for me” (14:36). What is<br />
your response to what Jesus prayed?<br />

• The New Testament makes it clear that every time<br />
Christians celebrate the Lord’s Supper, they<br />
proclaim the death <strong>and</strong> resurrection of Jesus (John
