CHILDREN AND parents took part in a wide range of activities at the Lincoln Event Centre on Thursday. The Selwyn Parenting Network’s family fun day was a big success, said co-ordinator Kate Webb. “It is always our aim to attract families from all over Selwyn, including the more rural areas, and give them an affordable day with new and loved entertainment and activities,” Ms Webb said. It is one of two flagship events the network runs each year. The other is children’s day at Foster Park, Rolleston, in March. At the family fun day, children tried out a range of new activities involving creativity, sports, nutrition and social awareness. Two new attractions proved popular. A heritage double decker bus took 200 passengers on free 15min bus tours of Lincoln. The other was a hair-braiding and nail bar, self-managed by eight volunteers from Lincoln High School. Other attractions were also popular, such as the recycled bicycles from Pedalmania, pony parties, the bouncy castles and face-painting. “Our SPN family fun day once again proved to be a celebration for all – our aim always being to continue building on the success year-on-year,” Ms Webb said She said the “incredible presence” of emergency services and their displays was a highlight.
