All the pupils have enjoyed their summer<br />

holiday and are eager to start on the new<br />

challenges of the year. All the children have<br />

many stories to tell about their holidays and<br />

much catching up to do with friends they have<br />

not seen during the summer break. The children<br />

are working hard with their teachers already and<br />

much learning is being achieved.<br />

We have welcomed our youngest and newest<br />

pupils into their reception classes for part of the<br />

day and then two full days before they began<br />

the full school week. The older children will be<br />

assigned to them as “buddies” to ensure that<br />

they have an older and more experienced friend<br />

at school during playtimes and lunchtimes. This<br />

is a very coveted role in Year Two and one<br />

which our Year two children take very seriously.<br />

We are looking forward to celebrating our<br />

Harvest during the first half of this term and<br />

preparations have already begun. We were very<br />

pleased that the entries we put forward for the<br />

<strong>Village</strong> show won prizes and we are very proud<br />

of the art work submitted and how well the<br />

children have done. We celebrated this at our<br />

weekly Superstars assembly last Friday. A huge<br />

thanks also goes to the ladies who run our art<br />

club and who always set out the entries for us.<br />

The entries’ were form the work the children<br />

had done during Art club.<br />

We have decided to have the theme of<br />

“People who inspire us” for our special<br />

curricular week this term. Everyone is really<br />

looking forward to this as we haven’t explored<br />

this theme before and we are aiming to have a<br />

wide range of people studied.<br />

Our gardening club is continuing this term<br />

and all the tubs around the school are looking<br />

lovely thanks to the efforts of the staff that<br />

watered them over the summer holiday.<br />

We will be continuing our work encouraging<br />

children and parents to walk to school once a<br />

week at least where this is practical.<br />

Our “ABC to Read” Mentors scheme to<br />

support the children in school continues and will<br />

be looking to train interested parents and<br />

grandparents to be reading mentors this year.<br />

We are already planning beginning to plan for<br />

our Christmas production and look forward to<br />

performing this before the end of term.<br />

During the next few weeks we will be<br />

undertaking our usual village walks with the<br />

children that will lead to map work and talking<br />

about local history. The children always enjoy<br />

this immensely and we hope for good weather!<br />

As always we value the support given to our<br />

school by the community. I would like to invite<br />

anyone who has a skill or something they feel<br />

able to offer us in any way to contact me at the<br />

school. We strongly welcome links with you all<br />

and there are many ways in which you can<br />

support us.<br />

Let’s hope for glorious autumn days ahead<br />

with sunshine and autumn warmth before the<br />

The P&TG <strong>Village</strong> Pre-school<br />

The end of term trip to Beconscot was enjoyed<br />

by all who attended. A great day out :-)<br />

This term we are welcoming 8 new children<br />

and their families with a further 6 starting in<br />

January, this means that we are full for the<br />

forthcoming year.<br />

Forest School will start as soon as the<br />

children are settled and will run for the term up<br />

to Christmas and will start again in the Summer<br />

term. This allows the woodland to recover but<br />

also means that a group of children are not<br />

being taken to the woods in the coldest part of<br />

the year. We try to ensure that all our children<br />

get a term of going to Forest School before they<br />

leave to go to school. We are very grateful to<br />

Liz Tebbut and Paul Williams for giving up<br />

their time to help us out with Forest School each<br />

week, without you we could not run the sessions<br />

so successfully.<br />
