All the pupils have enjoyed their summer
holiday and are eager to start on the new
challenges of the year. All the children have
many stories to tell about their holidays and
much catching up to do with friends they have
not seen during the summer break. The children
are working hard with their teachers already and
much learning is being achieved.
We have welcomed our youngest and newest
pupils into their reception classes for part of the
day and then two full days before they began
the full school week. The older children will be
assigned to them as “buddies” to ensure that
they have an older and more experienced friend
at school during playtimes and lunchtimes. This
is a very coveted role in Year Two and one
which our Year two children take very seriously.
We are looking forward to celebrating our
Harvest during the first half of this term and
preparations have already begun. We were very
pleased that the entries we put forward for the
Village show won prizes and we are very proud
of the art work submitted and how well the
children have done. We celebrated this at our
weekly Superstars assembly last Friday. A huge
thanks also goes to the ladies who run our art
club and who always set out the entries for us.
The entries’ were form the work the children
had done during Art club.
We have decided to have the theme of
“People who inspire us” for our special
curricular week this term. Everyone is really
looking forward to this as we haven’t explored
this theme before and we are aiming to have a
wide range of people studied.
Our gardening club is continuing this term
and all the tubs around the school are looking
lovely thanks to the efforts of the staff that
watered them over the summer holiday.
We will be continuing our work encouraging
children and parents to walk to school once a
week at least where this is practical.
Our “ABC to Read” Mentors scheme to
support the children in school continues and will
be looking to train interested parents and
grandparents to be reading mentors this year.
Village Voice October/November 2018
We are already planning beginning to plan for
our Christmas production and look forward to
performing this before the end of term.
During the next few weeks we will be
undertaking our usual village walks with the
children that will lead to map work and talking
about local history. The children always enjoy
this immensely and we hope for good weather!
As always we value the support given to our
school by the community. I would like to invite
anyone who has a skill or something they feel
able to offer us in any way to contact me at the
school. We strongly welcome links with you all
and there are many ways in which you can
support us.
Let’s hope for glorious autumn days ahead
with sunshine and autumn warmth before the
cold really sets in! Mrs J Dieppe, Headteacher,
The P&TG Village Pre-school
The end of term trip to Beconscot was enjoyed
by all who attended. A great day out :-)
This term we are welcoming 8 new children
and their families with a further 6 starting in
January, this means that we are full for the
forthcoming year.
Forest School will start as soon as the
children are settled and will run for the term up
to Christmas and will start again in the Summer
term. This allows the woodland to recover but
also means that a group of children are not
being taken to the woods in the coldest part of
the year. We try to ensure that all our children
get a term of going to Forest School before they
leave to go to school. We are very grateful to
Liz Tebbut and Paul Williams for giving up
their time to help us out with Forest School each
week, without you we could not run the sessions
so successfully.
Please book early for a place in September
2019! We offer places to children ages 2 -4
years & 30 hours free childcare can be provided
for those who are eligible. Check here for your
eligibility https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk.
