NEWS & VIEWS
I am pleased to be back with
some news and views.
Although I am not yet as
active, I am working on it!
Early September days have
been pleasantly cooler, with
sunshine subsiding to typical
early autumn shorter days, but
still with sunshine and less wind. The drought
for farmers and gardeners was serious to see,
but recent rain has been welcomed by everyone
and it is a relief to see the return of green to the
countryside and autumn flowers to our gardens.
Elm Road has seen some sad change, with the
closing of the Cottage Book Shop, so much
valued and world renowned. Uncertainty for its
future does not bring hope that it will continue a
life with books. It would be good to see it have a
useful life. Penn School's future is a bit more
hopeful as the Department of Education
www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk
launched a new bidding wave for 'Special
Schools (SS) and Alternative Provision (AP)
free schools. Consultation in the matter is taking
place urgently towards 15th October. In the
meantime filming crews are taking the
opportunity to use the site.
The Red Lion pub has a new owner although
with redecoration and re-furbishment taking
place I have not had an opportunity to get full
details. However, I understand she intends to
continue serving drinks with a variety of wines
and a display of antiques for sale. Very good
wishes for its success.
I feel so grateful for so much encouragement
and help received from so many friends and
neighbours all around in my recent health
downturn. I feel much better now, and firmly
encouraged to continue an enjoyable life in my
lovely home, with as much independence as I
can manage.
I am now looking at my garden's apple trees
and a promising crop as usual for a few more
weeks ripening. Those of you who have enjoyed
them over many years, will see them offered as
usual. Pat Dancer
