Peru shone once again in the South American edition of the World
Travel Awards, which is considered the ´Oscars´ of tourism. Our
country was awarded the ´Leading Culinary Destination´ and
´Leading Cultural Destination´, while Machu Picchu was declared
the ´Best Tourist Attraction´ in the region. Likewise, PromPeru
received for the third consecutive year the award for ´South
America’s Leading Tourist Board´. Hotels like Swissotel, Aranwa
Cusco, JW Marriot El Convento and Sheraton Lima were also
recognised in different categories.

IN THE WORLD
The Leading Culture Destinations Awards recognised
the J.C. Tello Museum, located in the National Reserve of
Paracas, as the ´New Culture Destination of the Year´.
Within this category, the Tello Museum was competing
against the Underwater Archaeological Museum of
Campeche in Mexico. Leading Culture Destinations
seeks to connect these places with younger travellers,
promoting their importance and interest.
The social media site, TripAdvisor, placed the Larco Museum
twentieth among the best museums of the world according to
the Travelers’ Choice Awards. With 97% positive comments
received, the Peruvian museum climbs up two places compared
to last year´s results. The Larco Museum, which was established
in 1926, houses a collection of more than forty thousand pieces,
highlighting the Pre-Columbian civilisations of the North of Peru,
like Mochica and Chimu.
