In this class, the skills and experience to draw everything will be gained. Students will learn elements of art through sketches and complete a final drawing using the human face and figure as tools to grow creativity and experience how to draw what you're looking at. Maddox Drawing as an Art Practice MICHAEL DOWLING ABILITY: INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED This workshop focuses on drawing as the final art piece. You will look at drawing as the finished product considering everything from how it integrates into your current studio practice to how to prepare it for display and sale. Each student will create a body of drawn work. Drawing can include a huge variety of approaches, so plan to come prepared with the materials you like to work with as well as reference materials, ideas, and examples of what you want your work to look like. Wednesdays, Apr 24–May 29 | 9AM–12PM $207 for 6-week workshop Drawing from Film Stills: Start to Finish MAX MADDOX ABILITY: ALL In this workshop, students will use mixed media and drawing techniques to create images from film stills. Explore the huge terrain of images at your fingertips, and scrutinize all the variations of composition and content. Discover the who, where, and how of cinematic drawing by learning to invigorate these images with gravity, emotion and surprise. Thursday, Mar 7–28 | 9AM–12PM $138 for 4-week workshop Basic Drawing TOM MAZZULLO ABILITY: ALL Students will learn core drawing skills working in charcoal, pencil, and crayon, based on fundamental still-life and figure drawing exercises. In addition to gaining media proficiency, students will also learn stylistic and conceptual approaches to drawing. Each class will feature a technical demonstration followed by group work time with individual guidance and critique from the instructor. We will explore values with ink washes, pen and ink techniques and with value markers. Still life and photo references will be used. Tuesdays, Feb 5–26 | 6–9PM $138 for 4-week workshop Perspective for Artists ELAYNE MOSELEY ABILITY: ALL This workshop will explore basic one and two-point perspective in drawing as well as using sighting and a ‘basic unit’ for proportions. This workshop is for the artist struggling with buildings and their angles in an urban scene, and putting the figure correctly into urban settings. It is not a drafting class, but rather how an artist would approach and solve these common problems in their work. Monday, Feb 18 | 9AM–2PM $58 for 1-day workshop Drawing Portraits KIM PUTNAM ABILITY: BEGINNER, INTERMEDIATE Beginning with reference photographs of family and friends, and later from a live model, you will practice drawing the head, neck and shoulders in correct proportions. Focus will be placed on mapping the facial feature and measuring strategies. This workshop will also teach students how to observe facial features, measure proportions and render accurate value structure.
