Those requirements rule out most of
the world, as the majority of people
live in cities where the cost of country
land on the outskirts is too high and
travel time too long.
New Zealand must be near the top of
the check list for many of the above ideals
and it fares highly in other ways too.
Auckland is rated one of the best cities
in the world to live and fulfills most of the
requirements, but a country property on
the outskirts is too far out and the traffic
is congested.
How about living on the outskirts of
New Zealand’s next largest cities; Wellington
or Christchurch? Both are attractive
propositions. Dunedin too. The next
tier of Nelson, New Plymouth and Napier,
though, perhaps, a bit small for some, are
also strong contenders.
Hamilton, the fourth largest New Zealand
city is rarely top of mind when choosing
from all the stunning options around
New Zealand, yet it is definitely deserving
of consideration.
At first glance many of the destinations
above have obvious appeal. Take a closer
look at Hamilton and it measures really
well on all of the criteria.
In my own case, I live on a typical lifestyle
property of five acres on the outskirts
of Hamilton. It’s 10 minutes drive to the
centre of Hamilton (15 in rush hour) and
within a close drive is everything from
nature walks and spectacular gardens
to major tourist destinations, beaches,
mountains, lakes, sporting facilities - and
so much more.
Discover Hamilton and its treasures
and spend some time in Waikato. Much
of the landscape is gently rolling terrain,
ideal for the many lifestyle properties
available, and which you can purchase
for the price of an average Auckland
townhouse.
Waikato has become known as the
heart of Middle Earth. Much of this has
to do with the global success of Hobbiton
which showcases the beauty of the
Waikato landscape whilst allowing people
to enjoy the impressive tourist attraction.
