AFTER MONTHS of delays<br />
Fulton Hogan has submitted a<br />
resource consent application to<br />
quarry near Templeton.<br />
Environment Canterbury and<br />
the district council received the<br />
resource consent application on<br />
<strong>November</strong> 20.<br />
ECan said the<br />
application will<br />
now be assessed<br />
to determine if<br />
all of the required<br />
information has<br />
been provided by<br />
Simon<br />
Moore<br />
Fulton Hogan.<br />
The resource<br />
consent<br />
application is yet<br />
to be formally accepted by ECan.<br />
The company is proposing<br />
a quarry at a 170ha site on<br />
Curraghs, Dawsons, Jones and<br />
Maddisons Rds.<br />

its plans for a quarry in the area<br />
in December last year and said<br />
it would submit the consent<br />
application in February.<br />
But the submission was<br />
delayed to May, then September,<br />
and then <strong>November</strong>.<br />
The quarry proposal has<br />
attracted vocal opposition<br />
from Templeton and Weedons<br />
residents.<br />

Moore said it was a “very sad<br />
day” for the communities near<br />
the proposed quarry.<br />
“None of us want it. They’ve<br />
got no interest except money.<br />
It’s nothing to do with<br />
Christchurch’s needs,” he<br />
said.<br />
Mr Moore said residents will<br />
now prepare to fight the resource<br />

“This is a battle, the war is not<br />
over yet.” He said the fight will<br />
cost time and money.<br />
“There are going to be lots<br />
of people who are going to be<br />
affected by this who are all<br />
going to have to spend time and<br />
money,” Mr Moore said.<br />
“At the end of the day, Fulton<br />
Hogan could get what they want,<br />
but I can assure you . . . I’ll do<br />
what it takes,” he said.<br />

TWO-CAR CRASH<br />
Two people received minor injuries<br />
in a crash on the intersection<br />
of Birchs and Robinsons Rd in<br />
Lincoln on Thursday. Lincoln fire<br />
chief officer Jeremy Greenwood<br />
said the crash happened just after<br />
5pm. He said a crew from Lincoln<br />
attended the crash.<br />
CHRISTMAS LIGHT SHOW<br />
The Christchurch Christmas<br />
Light Show starts in Prebbleton<br />
on Friday. This year’s theme is a<br />
White Christmas and includes<br />
snowmen and polar bears. The<br />
display can be viewed until<br />
December 30, from 8.30pm to<br />
midnight, at 650 Shands Rd. A $5<br />
cover charge applies per person.<br />
PLAYGROUND CLOSURE<br />
Rolleston’s Levi Park playground<br />
has been closed due to drainage<br />
issues affecting equipment and<br />
isn’t expected to re-open until<br />
about March. A new drainage<br />
system will be installed in the<br />
playground, which is New<br />
Zealand’s first Smart Playground,<br />
as the existing one hasn’t been<br />
working. Drainage work was<br />
scheduled to start on Monday and<br />
should be completed by December<br />
14. Following this, a new soft fall<br />
surface will be laid.<br />
