8.9kWh li-ion polymer battery.<br />

The Ioniq Hybrid has a petrol/electric<br />

powertrain that teams a 1.56kWh battery<br />

and 32kW, 170Nm synchronous motor<br />

with the 1.6-litre GDi Atkinson cycle petrol<br />

engine and dual-clutch automatic to<br />

provide 3.4L/100km fuel economy.<br />

As can be expected in new cars, the Ioniq<br />

range comes with an excellent range of<br />

hi-tech and safety systems.<br />

Standard across the range is Hyundai’s<br />

SmartSense suite, offering Forward<br />

Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot<br />

Collision Warning, Driver Attention<br />

Warning, Lane Keeping Assist – Line, Rear<br />

Cross-Traffic Collision Warning, Electronic<br />

Stability Control with Vehicle Stability<br />

Management, LED Daytime Running<br />

Lights, Emergency Stop Signal, Tyre<br />

Pressure Monitoring System, Rear view<br />

camera & park assist system, and Smart<br />

Cruise Control.<br />

Inside, the Ioniq range adopts an<br />

8.0-inch colour touchscreen multimedia<br />

system integrated into the dashboard.<br />

The new system features a host of<br />

connectivity means, such as Bluetooth<br />

phone and audio streaming, and iPodcompatible<br />

AUX and USB sockets. Apple<br />

CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.<br />

The supervision cluster displays a<br />

range of trip computer information, as<br />

well as system status and visual alerts<br />

from SmartSense and other safety systems.<br />

The cluster can also present turn-by-turn<br />

directions from the satellite navigation<br />

system.<br />

Hybrid and Plug-in Elite variants feature<br />

a 4.2-inch TFT LCD colour display, and<br />

Hybrid and Plug-in Premium variants<br />

and all Electric variants feature a high<br />

definition 7.0-inch TFT LCD colour display<br />

incorporating a virtual speedometer/<br />

tachometer.<br />

INTERIOR<br />

In keeping with the ‘green’ nature of the<br />

range, the interior of the Ioniq has some<br />

interesting features. Sugar cane byproducts<br />

contribute to 25 per cent of the<br />

soft-touch door trim panels, while recycled<br />

plastic, powdered wood and volcanic stone<br />

make up 10 per cent of the sustainable<br />

plastics used for other interior surfaces.<br />
