English & Humanities
English
English is a thriving and lively area at Litherland High where we strive to ensure that students enjoy our subject and progress in
all lessons. We pride ourselves on our good relationships with students and our commitment to improving standards of
teaching and learning.
Students are encouraged and expected to achieve all aspects of this subject. To ensure this happens, teaching staff cater for the
personal needs of individual students by using a range of teaching and learning styles. This may mean that students are asked to
work individually or in groups or it may mean using our dedicated ICT area to access key information from other sources.
Whatever the strategy is, we believe students will agree that English lessons are enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding.
Humanities
The humanities department consists of Geography, History and Religious Studies. Geography allows students the opportunity
to explore the world that they live in. Looking at both human and physical Geography.
History is perhaps more important than ever before as students discover not only the joys of a good historical story but also
its importance in understanding the world and its people as it is today. Enjoy learning about people and their societies,
economies, cultures and the environment and learn and develop a wide range of skills. Religious Education offers students the
opportunity to discuss, debate and challenge their own opinions and the opinions of others. It allows students to question and
reflect on many social, moral and cultural issues exploring the world and society around us.
