Westfield Cricket Club Update January 2019 Happy New Year to all residents: Although it is a quiet time on the playing front, it is still busy on the administration front with preparations for the coming season, including league registration and arranging fixtures*, as well as the continued development work on the ground and pavilion. The pavilion project continues with applications applying for grants already lodged with various funders. The next stage will be the increase in the size of the boundary, starting about March; this entails the removal of the remaining tree roots, then applying a layer of top soil which will then be levelled and seeded. This is an important development which will not only allow more use of the square for cricket but will give a bigger area for events such as CricketFest and, hopefully, use by the Youth Club. At our AGM in November, with the exception of the role of Treasurer, all of the committee members were re-elected for a further year which is really positive and gives the club continuity at such an important time in our development. Joanna Johnson was elected Treasurer and is a welcome addition to the committee, I am sure she will have a full role to play in the future of the club. Peter Baker and Darren Corke were re-appointed as Captain and Vice-Captain of our 1 st X1 respectively and Patrick Edwards and Bhavik Patel were appointed as Captain and Vice-Captain of our 2 nd X1 respectively. For administration reasons we had to appoint Trustees for the club for the first time and I am very pleased to say that Kaz Nanji, Jason Miller and Nicholas Johnson have agreed to take on these roles and were duly appointed. Good luck to all of our new officers and to the continuing officers please keep up the good work. As mentioned earlier it is a quiet time on the playing front; however we have players taking part in an indoor league and cup at Horntye so not everybody is having a break! We also have members who are on coaching and umpiring courses so good luck to players and students. We are always looking for new members - players and people to get involved generally; do please come along and join a friendly progressive club.
