She shares her experiences here to make an impact in
her circle. She runs around and checks her to-do list,
and she likes productive shortcuts. In other words,
instead of spending hours at a hair salon, she prefers to
get that benefit in the shower and to spend her time on
the things she enjoys.
Could you share the history of OGX – how was this
brand born?
We can say that the OGX brand is a rather young
brand. It was first created in a hair salon in the state
of Florida, USA in 2007. Todd Christopher, who was
an entrepreneur hair dresser, created this brand in
his own saloon, by finding and experimenting with the
best ingredients from all around the world. Todd even
designed the brand’s iconic bottle shape. In 2011, the
brand launched in European markets and became a
global brand in a very short space of time. In 2016,
Vogue international, to
which the brand was
affiliated, was acquired
by Johnson & Johnson. In
Turkey in June 2018, the
operations of the brand
have been completely
transferred to Johnson &
Johnson.
You have a wide range of
products. Which products
are best suited to which
hair type, and how should
the consumer choose?
We have a wide range
of products that meet
even very specific hair
care needs. In the care
and moisturizing category, there are several products
for each type of hair, from the finest and greasiest to
thicker hair. Argan oil, coconut oil and shea butter are
the strongest ingredients in this sense. As for styling,
we have the Brazilian Keratin range, containing the
Brazilian blowout in a bottle, inspired by hair salons,
that support straightened hair. The volumizing Bamboo
Fiber and the Biotin & Collagen ranges promise volume
and healthy length, whilst Coconut Curls range is
specifically designed for curly hair.
Color protection is crucial for dyed hair, because the
vibrancy of the dye is lost overtime due to the effects of
water and sun. The Orchid Oil range protects hair from
sun rays and helps protect the hair color. Bleached hair
is the most challenging, because it gets brassier as time
goes by. The Lavender Platinum range has an effective
formulation, specifically designed for blonde-dyed hair.
If you style your hair with heat frequently, notice split
ends and breakage, and if your hair color looks a little
dull, you can quickly restore your hair with the Keratin
Oil range.
Complementary oils and serum are also crucial to
ensure a full hair care regime. Applied to damp hair and
not rinsed, these oils and serums leave a fantastic feel,
smell great and significantly contribute to repairing hair.
There is a trend towards “natural living” today, and
consumers tend to prefer more natural products. What
kind of ingredients do you use?
OGX products contain an abundance of natural and
plant-based ingredients. Therefore, people who
follow this natural lifestyle trend are likely to prefer
our products. Ingredients with which we are familiar,
thanks to healthy eating trends, are amongst the mostused
ingredients in our OGX products. These include
essential oils from fruits and flowers, agave syrup,
avocado and cocoa, as well
as ingredients obtained
from natural sources such
as biotin, collagen, keratin,
vitamin E and caffeine.
OGX caught our attention
with its sulfate-free
products and ingredients.
Could you give us some
information on this?
Sulfate is an ingredient
found in the active
substances that work as
“cleaners” in shampoos.
These ingredients
are called SLS and
DERIVATIVES SLS (Sodium
Laureth Sulfate) SLES
(Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate) ALS (Ammonium Laureth
Sulfate), and MLS (Magnesium Laureth Sulfate). Using
sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate in hair care products
instead of sulfate-containing cleaners is a topic of
importance. This foaming ingredient obtained from
coconut is much softer and gentler compared to sulfatecontaining
cleaners. This is the naturally-derived
ingredient used in OGX products instead of sulfate.
It helps to protect hair – especially dyed hair – from
damages, which can be caused by harsh cleaners for
example. OGX shampoos are one of the few shampoos
on the market which are sulfate free.
Where can our readers find OGX products?
Our products are available on shelves at drugstores,
such as Watsons and Gratis, at local cosmetics stores,
at national chains such as Migros and Carrefour, and at
pharmacies nationwide.
