3. What is your diet like?
Real food. Basically, my diet varies depending on where
in the world I am. I try to eat local as much possible.
But I don’t compromise on certain things like; I do not
consume labelled food, especially if I can’t pronounce
what is written. Processed foods are another no-no. I
consume minimum dairy and dairy products. I have
substituted milk with unsweetened almond milk. I prefer
low GI foods and opt for free range or organic produce
whenever possible.
When at home, I start my day with warm lemon-gingertumeric
water as I think it’s detoxifying. I shop and cook
all my meals thrice a day, i.e., breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I try to incorporate at least seven colours throughout the
day in my meals. I haven’t consumed red meat for as
long as I remember as I am more inclined towards lean
protein such as free range chicken or eggs. I get my
omegas through wild caught fish - preferably salmon or
tuna. With every meal, I have either freshly squeezed
juice, green juice or homemade smoothie. Occasionally,
I treat myself with dark chocolate and sencha tea.
Oh yes and I never eat my meal alone. We try to have
our meals together as a family whenever possible. The
motive is to spend time with your loved ones, respect
food and food sources, be grateful, relax, enjoy every
meal and feel satisfied, not stuffed.
4. How do you stay motivated?
I enjoy group exercises as they are so much fun! And
more so, they are great motivators because you meet
people with similar lifestyle goals and needs. There is
nothing better than a great group workout class like
aerobics, pilates, abs, dance or body pump. I enjoy
good music and challenging, sweaty workouts. The
bonus is you get to stay fit.
5. Do you have any mental tricks that you
use when you just don’t feel like working
out?
Balance diet and exercise have become a way of life.
A good workout followed by a healthy, nutritious meal
makes me feel positive and happy about life in general.
And most importantly, I do what I enjoy and do it
alongside people whose company I enjoy. So it’s a winwin
situation for me.
6. What advice do you have for moms who
say they don’t have time for exercise?
There is no such thing as no time for your own wellbeing.
Workout at home if you don’t like to hit the gym
or go out for a walk or jog. Download fitness apps, which
will remind you periodically to exercise. Plus, they come
with a whole range of workout sessions which you can
play on demand. And most importantly, get your kids
involved and be a role model to your family. When your
children will see you exercising, they will also realise
the importance of keeping fit. It will be an essential life
lesson for them. They will learn to look after themselves,
respect and listen to their bodies.
I started working out when Micah was 41 days old. I
use to carry him in my arms and do squats and lunges.
He use to lie down besides me when I use to do my
stretches. It was so much fun!
