Just two Elites were awarded in a very busy day evaluating at
Catherston, and both of those to offspring of the British bred
stallion Timolin.
The highest score of the day was a massive 9.25 to eventing
filly foal Time to Fly. This June born filly was bred by Sally
Warner out of a mare by the stallion The Crofter. He was
an Irish Draught stallion who is also sire of the popular ISH
stallion Cos Me is Black. The big bay filly scored particularly
highly for frame, trot and canter (9.5 for all three) with
elastic and purposeful being two adjectives mentioned
regularly during her assessment.
In the dressage section it was the 2 year old colt Catherston
Tick Tock who was not only the highest dressage score of
the day (9.025) but was also the top scoring 2 year old of
the season across all disciplines. Bred and owned by Jennie
Loriston-Clarke, Tick Tock was also presented as a foal (Higher
First) and a yearling (Elite) and in fact was the 2nd highest
scoring dressage yearling last year. Tick Tock is a full brother
to the 2015 Elite foal Catherston Timeless, out of the Breitling
W mare Bee Precis. Tick Tock was also champion at the British
Breeders Network show in 2016. Sire Timolin is also a product
of the Futurity series, being awarded an Elite at the ages
of one, two and three. He has successful combined a dual
eventing and dressage career to date although being a son of
Jane Gregory’s International Small Tour mare Samira by the
Grand Prix superstar Totilas, the dressage arena would be his
ultimate destination.
Another dressage bred youngster with an interesting pedigree
was River Rise Kinky, the 3 year old filly earning the second
highest dressage score of the day. Kinky is bred and owned by
Sarah Tyler Evans and is a half sister to no less than River Rise
Nisa, the current Winter Medium and Advanced Medium Gold
Champion. Her sire is Sarah’s own stallion Spiridon (Sandro
Hit x Weltmeyer) who was a previous Novice Regional
Champion and is now competing Advanced Medium.
Earning a Higher First and the second highest score of the
Endurance series, was Ann Dark’s 3yo filly DD Gai Daneen,
a purebred Arabian daughter of Deemonstrator out of Bey
Dahmask. The Dark’s have a very successful endurance
team headed by their daughter Carri Ann who competes
internationally.
DD Gai Daneen (Deemonstrator x Ganemede)
The top show jumper of the day was a well balanced and
elastic son of the British based sire Cobra (Cornet Obolensky
x Ramiro Z). This was Rachael Helanor’s well balanced colt
foal Jacobs Ladder who scored 8.8. His dam Signorita Z is
a daughter of Sandro and includes the 1.45m international
jumpers Ballerina Z and Viola VH Smishof in her motherline.
Catherston’s own sport pony sire Littledale Bright Spark was
responsible for the top sport pony of the day, the 3 year old
gelding Beaurepaire Flutterby is out of a Florencio I dam
and is owned and bred by Penelope Makins. He was the SPSS
Youngstock Champion gelding in 2017.
