The oldest foal is the current National
7 year old Champion Corouet who is on
his way to represent his country at Lion
D’Angers. Like Sarah’s fabulous Reve
du Rouet, Corouet is a son of leading
show jumping sire Balou Du Rouet.
Balou has always been popular among
breeders for the good paces he puts on
his jumping foals and the often loud
markings.
Next came the now 5 year old Coroyale
by Royaldik. Sarah says she moves
fantastically, and she also went to
Osberton this year, thrilling the team
with her performance. She jumped
a double clear and finished on her
dressage score and is very exciting for
the future. Coraguar is a 4 year old
by the British based Jaguar Mail, the
Olympic show jumping and leading
event sire. This filly is probably the
least like Lilly in type. She was a very
late foal so Sarah is taking things
very slowly with her. She did do the
Keysoe BYEH class after only 5 weeks
under saddle demonstrating her great
temperament. All of Lilly’s foals have
this in common, they all want to go out
and do a job.
In 2016, Sarah and Brett used the
prominently Thoroughbred show
jumping stallion Amiro Z. As a result of
a double ovulation they ended up with
two pregnancies, and two very similar
colt and filly foals born 5 days apart.
I asked if they had been tempted to
keep the colt entire but Sarah said as
she likes to keep her horses as naturally
as possible, it made more sense to geld
him.
This year’s foal is a filly by Diarado.
Although looking like she might be a bit
smaller she is elegant and stunning to
look at. From an early age she has been
leaping off mounds in the field and is
really brave and bold. Sadly this year’s
ET did not go to plan with the embryo
lost after the heartbeat scan, but
Lilly will be bred back to the Heraldik
son H-Ekwador. This big grey stallion
combines the sire line of leading event
sire Heraldik with a Corofino x Landgraf
dam line and the stallion competed
to Grand Prix dressage himself. With
the Heraldik blood through Royaldik
having worked so well on Lilly in the
past, Sarah is very excited about this
combination.
Sarah says the breeding has been
great fun to do and Lilly has thrown
some incredible horses. Although
they know they have been incredibly
lucky so far, it does help starting off
with such a good mare. Not only does
Lilly have the form in sport, but she
also has the pedigree to back this up.
There are a good number of national
and international 1.50m jumpers
in the immediate damline, some
licensed stallions and her dam’s half
sister produced the CCI** horse Dario.
Her sire is the Oldenburg licensing
champion Lovis Corinth (by Landor S)
Lilly meets her daughter
Coroyale for the first time.
and her damsire the Trakehner licensed
Thoroughbred stallion Fierant. The
consistent Spanish team eventer Helena
is by Heraldik out of a Fierant mare
so that adds extra spice to next year’s
proposed breeding plans.
Finally I asked Sarah what her thoughts
were as she driving down to Lion
D’Angers for the World Championships.
She said Corouet may only be small
but in his mind he is the perfect
height. She hasn’t found a track yet
that doesnt suit him. He is up for
everything, and when he locks onto a
fence you just have to go with him. He
is an awesome jumper but Sarah says
everytime she dismounts she forgets he
is small and jumps down as if he was
17.0hh, hitting the ground sooner than
she would expect. He has a huge stride
and Sarah can’t wait to get going!
Everyone here at British Breeding will
be cheering the pair on too.
