There were no Elite premiums awarded in the Endurance
category this year, but the highest score in this discipline was
awarded at the Tushingham leg of the Futurity. This went to
the April born colt foal Vlacq Lord Bazinga. Home bred by
Laura Pyke by her own stallion, the predominantly Crabbet
sire Vlacq Zibaq out of Vlacq Sulime by the Thoroughbred
Hipu Who. Laura has bred high scoring endurance candidates
in the past including the High Scoring foal in 2014 – Vlacq
Elladora.
The dressage section was particularly strong at the Cheshire
venue, with no less than 4 Elites being awarded. These were
to foals Fairytale Romance (For Romance I X Rubin Royal),
Durango (Dream Boy x Schwarzgold) and Fosshey Quarrier
(Quatensprung x Der Lord), and also to the 3 year old filly
Faithfully Yours (Blue Hors Farrell x Rosentau). It was Lucinda
Bellis’s Fairytale Romance who took the high score of the day
with marks of 9.5 for both trot and canter, which both were
uphill with clear articulation of the joints. He is a son of the
young Oldenburg sire For Romance I who is already competing
at advanced level, and his dam is out of leading Grand Prix
sire Rubin Royal.
Sandra Tinkler’s 3 year old filly Faithfully Yours led the way
for the older generation with an excellent score of 9.025. The
long legged chestnut Hanoverian was praised for her athletic
conformation and the cadence in her trot. She hails from
the Furst Heinrich sire line through her sire Blue Hors Farrell
whose first crop of stallion prospects in 2017 were approved
in a number of registries. Her dam Raffina was one of Fosshey
Stables’ foundation mares.
There was a further Elite in the show jumping section where
Lauren Scaratt’s Redhot Toddie was awarded 9.05. This May
born colt is a son of the AES stallion Voights Anky Pankynky
out of a daughter of the international performer Russel. With
excellent scores from the vet and for his canter, the colt was
praised for his balance and power.
The top yearling across the day was also in the show jumping
section and this was Stuart Shaw’s gelding Cascadello Derevel
Sandra. With his athletic frame and strong canter, the son of
Cascadello is an interesting prospect for the future.
The top eventer was
also a yearling, this
being Poppy Burgess’s
homebred Fun Lovin
Criminal. He is a son
of the Dutch bred but
British based sire
Denver LG out of a
mare by the important
Thoroughbred sire
Criminal Law. He was
praised for his frame
and eventing type.
