RICHMOND
24th July
As the Futurity tour started it’s journey southwards, the
second day was held at Richmond Equestrian Centre in
Yorkshire. It was a day where foals came to the fore across
the disciplines.
The only Elite score of the day was awarded in the eventing
section and this went to colt foal Cornsay Invincible, bred
by Louise Smales. This very elegant and refined colt is out
of the full Thoroughbred mare Cornsay Sloe and is by Future
Gravitas. Future Gravitas has evented himself and is a son of
the Young Horse World Eventing Champion Grafenstolz out
of a top international producing damline. His offspring have
been consistently successful at the Futurity in recent years.
Invincible scored a 9 or more on all three paces.
The top eventing filly was another foal, this time owned
and bred by Jessica Whitfield. This was the Forinth daughter
Forlypso Bryere. This young filly was very consistent in all
her paces. Her sire Forinth has won at CCI* level and show
jumped to Grade B and is now a very able schoolmaster aged
19.
Topping the dressage section was Yvonne Scales’ Cornhill
Diamont Noir, who went on to be selected for the Elite
Foal Auction at Stoneleigh. A son of Yvonne’s own stallion
Gambler (Zanzibar x Voice) out of the Furst Heinrich mare
DHI Fantasia. This is the motherline of international eventer
Florenz. The black colt scored a super 9 for his walk.
Young Rider jumping star Balou Star sired the top two jumping
foals at Richmond. Heading those was Lauren Roseberry’s
homebred Dark Knight Z. This charming colt is out of the
Viento Uno mare Dark Dutchess and this is the motherline
of Mon Ami (dual Eindhoven Derby winner) and Grand Prix
dressage horse Vivaldo. Balou Star combines the top blood of
Balou Du Rouet and Quick Star and was the Gold Medallist at
the 2017 Young Rider European Championships.
