Of the foals not sold on the night,
many have found fantastic homes
since, thanks in no small measure
to the publicity and exposure from
the auction. We are already looking
forward to next year and to continuing
to grow the auction as a way of
building stronger connections between
breeding and sport and of raising our
breeders’ profiles.
AES Autumn Gradings
This autumn, our evaluators hit the
road again in two grading tours, taking
them from the South coast all the
way up to Scotland to visit a mixture
breeders and grading venues for mare
and stallion inspections, as well as to
give breeders feedback on their foals
and youngstock.
We are particularly delighted that so
many breeders are engaging with our
state-of-the-art evaluation system,
providing detailed linear profiles and
feedback that will help to inform
future breeding decisions. All horses
are inspected in walk, trot and
canter, as well as receiving a details
conformation assessment to highlight
correctness and functionality for the
sport. All scores are stored on our
database to provide a highly useful
resource for the future. Grading
levels awarded at inspection range
from 1* (graded into the studbook) to
3*** (exceptional), with further stars
awarded for performance at national
and international level.
The grading tours give us the
opportunity to assess our next
generation of studbook stallions, and
we are excited to introduce some
absolute gems.
Highlights include two exciting new
stallions for Future Sport Horses. The
first is a thoroughbred by Power Blade
XX out of a Hand in Glove XX mare bred
by stud owner Julia Hodkin herself.
Future Prophecy XX convinced with
lovely type and uphill conformation
to offer what is becoming increasingly
difficult to find: a pure thoroughbred
with a proper riding horse stamp
to provide that all important blood
injection for modern sport horse
breeding for eventing and beyond.
One stallion who stood out was
Future Guilty Pleasure by the very
interesting Levisto son Levisonn out
of a Cantoblanco x Primitive Proposal
XX mare. This imposing young horse
showed three outstanding elastic gaits,
demonstrating that modern eventing
breeding does not need to compromise
on extravagance and expression on

the flat on top of the ability to jump
and gallop. We can envisage this horse
succeeding in any sphere, and feel he
has much to offer not only to those
seeking to breed an eventer, but also
to those wanting to inject a good dose
of power and athleticism into their
dressage breeding.
In Scotland, we inspected some
exciting new show jumping stallions
from outstanding bloodlines that
present a highly valuable addition
to the AES portfolio and to British
breeding. Owned and bred by Select
Horses Ltd, we saw three outstanding
sons of Diamant de Semilly out of
Golden du Marai, mother of no fewer
than two international 1.60m, one
1.45m and two 1.40m horses and
half-sister of the two successful 1.60m
horses Diabolo d’Ysieux and Pyros
d’Ysieux. The same stud will also
be standing Canali Z, a young son of
Comme Il Faut who showed exceptional
balance and action in the canter, and
Be Inspired R&D Z, a direct son of none
other than Baloubet du Rouet from the
direct motherline of Sir Oldenburg.
AES on the International Stage
This year has seen some fantastic
results for AES horses at the very top
of the sport. The AES mare Suma’s
Zorro (by Douglas out of a Horos XX
mare) carried on in what has become
a bit of an AES tradition of outstanding
chestnut mares and delivered a
performance record that sees her
in top position in the Hippomundo
Rankings, and which included a
spectacular win at the Rolex Grand
Prix at Spruce Meadows in September
and victory at the Longines Global
Champions Tour Grand Prix at Paris.
Other great wins this summer include
William Funnell and Billy Buckingham’s
success at Hickstead, Kimba Flamenco
and Billy Twomey’s win at Falsterbo,
Argento’s victory at Chantilly, Whisper
in the Wind’s success at Weston Lawns,
and last but not least Scott Brash
and Hello Mr President’s win at at
the Longines Global Champions Tour
Grand Prix of London, where the pair
made history, putting Scott Brash in
the record holding spot for the most
Longines Global Champions Tour Grand
Prix wins ever! Congratulations to all
the breeders, riders and owners of
these fantastic horses, flying the flag
for British breeding across the Globe!

all breeders of sport horses and ponies
with great ambitions. Our philosophy is
to encourage diversity in breeding by
facilitating the use of a wide range of
world class performance lines from all
over the world. We therefore accept
offspring by all stallions approved with
World Breeding Federation member
studbooks, and offer a highly tailored
approach for in depth mare and
youngstock inspections across the UK
at home and at public venues several
times a year. We have developed a
state-of-the-art transparent grading
system, with data published via our
public database not only to give our
breeders detailed and useful feedback,
but to provide them with a resource for
the future.
