What having two kids from
two different men taught me
— Toyin Lawal
Serial entrepreneur, Toyin Lawani of Tiannah’s Place Empire, once
said she can do whatever she wants because no man pays her bills or
controls her life but she’s obviously not oblivious of the stigma that comes with being a
single mother in a society such as ours. In a recent epistle posted on her Instagram page the
beauty therapist who keeps romancing the sensibilities of many with her rather sensually
explicit visuals, gives an insight into the lives of single mothers, being a
single mother with two kids from two different men, herself.
“When you are different the world will hate you for no reason; when they
don’t understand your life choices or theories they will castigate you and
everything you stand for. The women that go through the most in life are
single moms , they are blamed for their choice of not being married or in
a man’s house. They take care of their kids, day in day out, pushing them
to greater heights without uttering any complaints and still let the
fathers play their role in the child’s life, they struggle, day in day
out, to give the people around them joy and happiness. When you
want to blame a woman for being single or having kids with
different men, think twice because it can happen to anybody,
either by death or by pain . At times we don’t choose our situations,
at times, our situations choose us ,” she writes.
She revealed that she had her first child at 23, having married
at 19, possibly implying she never planned to be a single
mom until situation spiraled out of her control and
bemoaned having lived through an abusive relationship.
“A long time ago, a friend sent me a message which I
still have, mocking me that I was in an abusive
relationship showing off to me that she had a better
husband than me, I took my kids and walked away
from the relationship, said nothing to the public and focused on my
business and kids. I had my first kid when I was 23 years old, I got
married when I was 19years old, there are many things y’all don’t
know about me, I have been through hell and back with no complaints
r pity party".
What my children hate
about me —Timi Dakolo
BY ROTIMI AGBANA
ensational soul music singer, Timi Dakolo may be reviewing his fatherhood skills anytime
soon as his three lovely children, Hallel, Zoe and Alexander, have boldly confronted
him with what they dislike about him.
According to the distraught singer who is now confused as to how else to deal with his kids,
he is yet to come to terms with, if the methods he has been adopting in bringing them up
are good or bad.
“While enjoying our breakfast, I asked my children what they don’t like about me or things
I do that they don’t like. Hallel said, ‘Daddy you shout too much’ and I go like how? Don’t run
on the stairs, drop my phone now, and turn off that TV now. Respect your brother Hallel, this is
my house Hallel, this is my house. Turn off that TV or I will disconnect the TV. Hallel those are
not real tears, leave my room'. Alexander said ‘You are too harsh on me; you still won’t let me play
PS4 even if I have nothing to do. You always shout ‘respect your sisters’ even if they look for my
trouble a lot. When we do our family meeting, you talk a lot, you keep repeating the same thing
and we are children we just want to play and watch TV but you don’t let us. You bought ipads for
us but you always hide it'.
He added; “Zoe said ‘You don’t let me wear what I want. You always say that is for outing. You
never let me sleep in your room but you call me baby of the house. And you lie daddy, you will say
you will come back soon but you don’t come back soon and you travel a lot. You say you have
money in the bank but when I say I want more clothes you say, no money, Zoe'. My people, what
is my crime?”
Who knows, the ‘Iyawo mi’ crooner may soon embark on a journey in search of a rule book on
how best to train his children to avoid a repeat of such bold confrontation from his kids.
NEC Live 7 unravels
thinking behind BBNaija
frica’s leading marketing and public relations technology company, Plaqad.com
Ahas announced the release of the first-ever Big Brother Naija report. The Report which
was released at the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC) on Wednesday April 24, provides
valuable insight into the public perception of the reality TV show, its impact on the youth
culture in Nigeria and its effect on the Nigerian economy.
While the show has remained popular especially with the young population, many have
questioned the thinking behind it as well as its general impact on Nigeria’s economy and
youth culture.
“While the popularity of BBNaija is never in doubt especially as it relates to its entertainment
value, the direct and indirect impact of the show on youth culture and our economy is not as
visible,” said Gbenga Sogbaike, CEO of Plaqad.
“Does the show actually provide opportunities for young people to thrive in the creative
industry? Does it indeed drive any growth in Nigeria’s entertainment, telecoms, fashion,
hospitality, tourism, and media sectors as some have claimed? Why do thousands of people
show up for its auditions year after year? What makes the show appealing> Discovering the
answers to these questions and many others require that one digs deeper and look beyond the
surface.”
“However, and rather unfortunately, there exists no concrete body of research on the BBNaija
show till date. Hence the need for this report.”
Among other exciting findings, the report revealed that Bisola Aiyeola, a 2017 contestant
on the show, is the most loved BBNaija housemate ever. It also claimed that a majority of
Nigerians believe the Big Brother Naija show is a more viable path to success than a university
degree and a 9-5 job.
Any man I date
stardom after clinching the Miss
Charismatic crown at the 2013
Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria
(MBGN) has clearly defined
what she requires of the man who
wants to be with her, either for the
moment or for life and her
request is simple – respect! Ronke
let the cat out of the bag in a
recent chat with Potpourri when
she was asked what would
make her cheat on a guy.
“There is nothing that
would make me cheat, I
would simply leave him. Any
man I date must respect me
as a woman, an intelligent,
beautiful, hard working
woman. He must love and
support me the same as I will
love and support him. This
world is a difficult place and
you need a partner that you are
in it together with. If a man is
disrespectful, talks down on you,
insults you, or even worse,
abuses you, a woman should
leave him instantly because the
man does not truly love her. I
have too much respect for
myself to be with a man who
does not respect me,” she said.
