Psychological trauma
I suffered after gaining
weight for movie role
— Toni Tones
BY ROTIMI AGBANA
or most women, putting on
Funnecessary weight is something they never
wish for as a result of the adverse effect it exerts on
them physically, mentally and psychologically. But
for sultry Nollywood actress, Gbemi Anthonia
Adefuye, popularly known as Toni Tones, she had to
intentionally gain extra 40-pounds for a movie role
in ‘King of Boys’.
Sharing her experience, the actress explained the
psychological trauma she suffered while living inher
new size.
“I’m almost back to my ‘pre-King of Boys’ weight. This is particularly huge for me,
because at the time I chose to put on weight for the project, I was honestly very afraid
about my ability to lose the weight again. I love food, so staying in shape already took
a lot of effort. I had to learn a lot of self-discipline to be able to control my portions
when I eat, make healthy food choices and make exercise a lifestyle.”
“Yes it takes much longer, but the results also stay much longer! I went from 58kg
to 76kg, that’s 40pounds/18kg. I lost 9kg by the premiere 8-months later and went
down to 67kg. And today, 6 months after the premiere, I got on scale and I’ve lost
another 7kg. Now weighing 60kg and I don’t know how to act about it. I’m so
excited. I’m just 2kg away from my goal of my original 58kg. But I will continue to
take it slow and steady till I reach my goal.”
“Most of my life, I’ve been told I couldn’t and shouldn’t do many things, acting
was one of them. I never listened, I always let my fear and self-doubt fuel me,
and I’m happy I did. Being able to put my mind to this and achieve this is so
important to me, because it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It also
took a toll on me psychologically, I had never been that size before, my face was
much chubbier, my hands were so big, my arms were so big, I couldn’t wear a
lot of my old clothes. Everyone I ran into would comment on how much weight
I’d put on. Fans would message me that I was becoming too big.”
Though she wasn’t comfortable with the embarrassing attention she got from
men, she admitted that she liked the new size of her butts.
“I had to constantly affirm myself and strengthen my belief that I was
beautiful at any size. My butt was so massive, that was a plus. I got to
experience what all big booty ladies had been experiencing in terms of male
attention and all I’ll say is, they are enjoying. You can’t move without men
jumping. I honestly found it weird at first. Yes, I got attention from guys
previously, but it quadrupled. It actually became overwhelming at a point
because you’ll be talking to someone and they’ll just be staring at your boobs
and it became really annoying, sometimes offensive.”
However, she expressed excitement over being able to lose weight again and revert
to her former stature.
“I’m glad my little old booty and my reasonably sized boobs are back. It was an
interesting experience, but let me go back to my lane please, that’s the level my
energy gets to. To finally be close to my goal, to actually be here is such an amazing
feeling, considering how afraid I was. It took 15-months, but I did it. I put on weight
for a role, gave the role my heart and soul and lost the weight after. I’ve never been
more motivated that I can achieve anything I put my mind to”, she noted.
The story of my humble beginnings —Kaffy
•Kaffy
BY ROTIMI AGBANA
World class Nigerian dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and fitness coach, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau-
Ameh, better known as Kaffy, is well-loved and admired for her dancing abilities and the fact that she
successfully transformed her passion and drive into a lucrative career.
In a chat with Seyi Banigbe on her TV show, ‘Binging with the Game Changers’, the Guinness World Record holder who grew
up with the dream of becoming an Aeronautical Engineer but eventually had to study Data Processing and Computer
Science at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, recounted how she grappled with the hard knocks of life to build a solid
successful career.
“Though I was born into wealth, I lived in poverty for a while when at age 11, my parents separated. I and my
siblings lived with their mum, and life became so difficult that they found it difficult to eke out a living. We
literally consumed garri for seven months consecutively. I catered for myself and my family by going to the
farm. I would harvest vegetables and sell to make money.”
“Along the line, I joined an aerobics class at the National Stadium in order to lose weight and was always
regular and punctual. This prompted my aerobics teacher to appoint me to lead the class whenever she was
unavailable. Being a dancer, I infused dancing into aerobics and the class loved it, always wanting me to
lead whenever the teacher was absent. I got promoted and began to train athletes.”
“During one of my weekends at the National Stadium for dance rehearsals and workouts, I was
approached by a promoter for a modeling job. Part of the modeling activity was choreography. Even
though I didn’t want to do the choreography at first, I later agreed and asked the promoter to allow me
to do a solo performance. Unknown to me, many artistes were present at the event and loved my
performance. The rest is history”, she said.
No doubt, Kaffy has featured in numerous award-winning musical videos for many A-list artistes in
Nigeria and across the globe. She won a Special Recognition Award at the 2018 edition of Headies,
for her significant contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment.
The new club poised to unlock
the potentials of the adult nightlife
passionate idea we are bringing to
Africa, starting from Lagos, to create
a luxurious and world class setting
for gentlemen to let out all
inhibitions, get loose, enjoy and
have fun. Adult night club is not just
a business to me, it’s a passion and
with the experience I have, I decided
it was time to come home, seeing
how fast and big the entertainment
and hospitality business in Nigeria
is growing. I spent most of my life in
Fast rising singer, Alvin Tolani Osungade, a.k.a Sojiii, has grown from
an up and coming artiste to become a music sensation to reckon with
both in Africa and in diaspora- Canada, America and Europe; as he has
been topping music charts since he released his official debut single
‘Tombo’, accompanied by an exotic visual, shot in Canada by Seed Visuals.
Co-produced by Fresco Rhodes, the song topped music charts for 7-
straight days after its debut on iTunes and apple music chart in the first
week of release; a great record achieved for the first time by a contemporary
afro-beats artiste based outside the continent and in Canada.
The song also made it to the number 3 spot on Top Ten Nigerian Music
he is enjoying the spotlight of mainstream media and a fast growing fan base spread across
several continents.
According to the CEO of AY Media Group, Imole-Ayo Ade-Tumi Adeosun, the label’s goal is to discover
young talents from Africa, develop them into world class entertainers cum music exports and Sojiii is the first
beneficiary of this plan and AMG’s flagship artiste.
“As more talents are about to be launched with AMG platform, we will like to announce that AMG newly
signed Nest Json, aka Daddy J, in March 2019, and his dropping his anticipated single ‘Pere’, sometime in
April 2019. AMG is different from all other labels due to the fact that everyone under the label is treated like
family and the artistes are not restricted in any way, enabling them to reach their highest potential”, he said.
Miami, Florida, owning several
strip clubs in Jacksonville Florida,
Toronto and Caracas Venezuela and
having returned, I felt the ultimate
gentlemen club experience should
be introduced to Nigeria.”
Speaking further, Big Slim
stressed that Silver Fox founded
reckon with on the Adult Nightlife
scene with an outstanding track
versatile enough in the delivery of
premium and exquisite nightlife
services, to keep expanding its
acceptance. “We move with the
trends. Strip Clubs are part of the
hip-hop culture and it’s my objective
to change Africa with that same
attitude. With 26 years of
experience in this game, we have
been consistent. At any given
time, we have up to 50 dancers in
